Can I choose...?
#1
My question is this:
Given the fact that most regionals do flying for most or all of the Majors, as a newly hired FO (let's assume I fall within the top 3 of my class), can I pick which "Major" I would like to fly for?
For example, I have worked for Delta & Comair in the past in a non-flying capacity. If I were hired by Chautauqua or Skywest, or one of the other "Delta Connection" carriers, can I request to fly the "Delta Connection" line/routes?

What do they call the guy/gal who is at the bottom of their graduating medical school class?
Doctor.

First Officer. Where ever the hell they want you to be!
I had a hard time explaining to my then girlfriend that I had to start all of my trips in a base where they tell me. Said base could be changed later, but for then I was stuck. She thought I could just go to BDL and "start" flying.

At CHQ, you could bid specifically Delta pairings, but as a junior FO, you'll get what is left (depending on the base, this may be all Delta). PBS will allow you to construct a bid that targets Delta flying, but only if Delta flying is left when it runs your bid.

SkyWest - Eventually you could...but only by bidding into SLC or ATL for the Delta flying. This doesn't mean that you won't flow-through DEN, ORD, or Cali, on the United-side once in awhile...
In this industry your priorities are probably better off focusing on something other than the livery and color-scheme on the plane you're flying LoL - you're going wherever the Airline feels it's best for them. ;-P Good luck!!

That being said, seniority is what will allow you to hold certain bases that do flying for predominantly one major. If you look at the bases for various regionals and compare them to their major partners its pretty easy to see who you'd be flying for
XJT: IAH/EWR/CLE = CAL
LAX = DAL
SKW: ATL/SLC = DAL
DEN/ORD/MRY/SAN/PDX = UAL
MKE = Midwest

Some codeshares are worth avoiding. I'll take my low-time Delta trip over any UAL or CAL trip any day.
