ASA questions
I am going to put in an application into ASA soon, but before i do that I was wondering what the general consensus on the quality of life at that company. From the web site they look like a good company and a thorough interview. Also, what is the upgrade time for them? I live in STL and would it be easy to commute there and after the first year how much does the pay increase from the $19.00? Thanks for you inputs, I just want to do a good bit of research before I really commit to a company.

been training here about a month, getting ready to go to sims, GREAT bunch of people here, from the traiining /HR dept, to the pilot group. It is tough around here right now without a contract, if they ever get it signed it will be one of the top places to be in the regionals. 1st year pay, $19, 2nd year pay $34.....if the contract gets signed, we have been told that 1st yr will be $23 an hour and $37 an hour 2nd year on the CRJ 200, we' ll see. Send your resume in, go to the interview, get some info on the compny and get experience interviewing at the very least, I have had a good experience here so far, ATL is nice theres some nice pace to go out and good suburbs to live in...i plan on commuting from BOS , but if that doesntwork, i could live here I think, regardless, good luck! Right now, the lines have been reduced to 85 ish hours per month. Be prepared to work weekends for quite a while. Reserve time is between 1 to 2 months depending on when you finish IOE. By November and December, lines will pick up to 90 hrs per month to cover the hiliday rush.
With regards to current conditions at ASA, you might want to look at other options. QOL stinks right now. ALPA and Management are at a stalemate and the NMB will not release us for self-help (i.e. strike).
If I were you, I would not hire on with ASA right now. Find another regional that respects you as an employee.

TA signed. ASA should be back on top quite quickly now that management has decided to make a reasonable offer. I think the #'s will improve fast after we get this darn contract finalized.
That said, upgrade is about 3 years right now. It should become less as lots of people are leaving. QOL in the new contract looks decent. Trip rigs, decent pay, and a lot of good details.
Our training dept is awesome. It is very organized and you will actually know quite a bit when you hit the line. That said IF you have a good attitude you will go great. Bad attitude or a "know it all" BS attitude demonstrated by some of the large flight school pilots will get you in deep quickly. Even junior Capt. at ASA have 5000+ hours and lots of flying in very high density airspace.

because I was also the most junior. I though it was rediculous that I had 4 times the flight time as most of these others guys and I was junior to them (they assign seniority by age). To top it all off, they all thought they were better pilots than me because they fly the CRJ and I fly the ATR. It didn't upset me or anything, it was just an unpleasent surprise. I would not expect that kind of treatment from a group of "pilots" on the professional level.
