Default Survey for Pilot Hobby-Jobs

Hi all -

My colleagues and I at the University of Houston (Department of Psychology) have developed a study that applies to many of you who have made your hobby (in this case, flying) into a some form of business or job. This study aims to find out more about people who make their hobbies into any job - whether it is part-time, full-time, or freelance. We hope the results will enable us to make recommendations to those who have taken "doing what you love" to a whole new level so that they may continue doing so!

We have posted a short anonymous survey - it takes about 10-15 minutes to complete - at the following link:

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=x74gbHw5K_2fuiCbl3yWHnUA_3d_3d

You can respond anytime until Friday, Dec 14th.

If you have any questions, please send me a message.

Thanks in advance!

Are you serious?

Do you really think working pilots are furthering a hobby?

Flying has never been a hobby for me. I got into it from day one for it to be a career.

I got into it from day 1 as a hobby (mainly 'cause I love doing it) and am now working toward turning it into a career so I can do more of it than I could otherwise. This survey booted me out on the first question

You're probably going to have to pay us do do a survey.. just like you would any other college student. (unless the student is being forced to do it as part of a curriculum requirement.)

Then again, I am bored.

yea me too . I think the ones that hold the sport-pilot certificates are the hobby pilots.

You all are funny. Yep, I've met a few pilots at least that have gotten into flying as a hobby first and then as a job and various outcomes have ended up from there. Actually my hubby is one of those that always talks about making into more than a hobby, hence one motivation for this study.

Thanks to all who have filled out the survey thus far! If you have any questions let me know.

I did get one question earlier that I might as well address here too. If you're wondering what some of the questions have to do with a hobby-job as you take the survey, believe me, they do (or they might...but we need people to respond to figure it out!). We're looking at a number of factors that impact a number of different outcomes in people who make a hobby into a job. So we hope to see even more respondents!

Looking forward to sharing the results!

Sara

I also was kicked out at number 2.

The kind of flying I do for a hobby and the kind of flying I get paid to do are on opposite spectrums

Until they start flying stearmans into grass strips for part 121 then my hobby and my job will never merge
