I know two 777 pilots who have been good friends since the dark ages. both have Lincoln aviators... hey they like to do ish together ::shrug:: i think their wives talked them into it.

mine is a 93 Jeep Grand cherokee W/o working shocks or stabilizers.
Hey it may not be pretty but its always fun when you roll over some railroad tracks.

Which S series were you looking at? i used to valet and the S 55 and the E 55 were ... unbelievably nice but prolly cost a nice penny.

Default Cars are like Airplane tickets?

Cars are like airplane tickets, they both get you from point A to point B. Some get you there a little faster and maybe a little nicer. For the most part; people buy the cheapest model of car that best fits thier needs. Thats kind of like buying an airline ticket; isnt it? People buy the cheapest airline tickets, thats because they all get you from point A to point B. See the correlation between the airline industry and the automobile industry. Ford and Chevy are like the lagecy airlines.( i.e. Delta, United) They are hurting finacially too; the auto industry is flooded with cheap cars like: Kia, Saturn,Hyundia, ect. The aviation industry is flooded with low cost carriers. Both industries seem to be pretty symetrical dont they? Just going to state the obvious here too; fuel prices are putting a hurt on both industries. I know a few Alaska Airline captains and a couple of FedEx captains. They all drive similar cars; CHEAP, economical, and im my eyes a coffin on wheels. Sorry for the long post, just my two cents.

I was reading some Mercedes-Benz marketing data that described the average S Class buyer as having an income of $250k. All I could think is that they must have alot of retirees in that number (low income, high net worth).

It was just recently that I swallowed hard and spent more than $30k for a car (previous record- $17k). The missus, of course, is always driving nice iron.

I'm amazed at how many people drive a more expensive car than they ought to.

Default Don't judge a pilot by his car...

Now that I have achieved the status of a major airline captain, I still find myself driving my 1987 Nissan Sentra with 153k miles on it. my wife, a pediatric surgeon drives a 2001 Saturn. I always dreamed of having the fancy wheels but have become too practical in my ways. During my military days I would often drive our Buick LeSabre Estate wagon to Fighter Weapons School (Top Gun) just to make a statement that you don't have to drive a corvette to be a fighter pilot. Cars are over-rated in my opinion. I have always thought that being able to buy a Mercedes and not, was always funner than spending the 70k and wishing we hadn't. Now my Bellanca Viking is another matter......
