LONDON, England (CNN) -- An emergency operation is under way at London's Heathrow Airport after an inbound passenger jet landed short of the runway on Thursday.

UPDATE:
LONDON, England (CNN) -- Witnesses have described how the pilot of a British Airways passenger jet that crash landed at London's Heathrow Airport on Thursday appeared to be struggling to bring the plane down safely as it came in low over surrounding houses.

Well they are definately lucky no one was hurt. Speculation??? Behind the power curve? Auto-land gone wrong? Obviously about 2000 ft short of the threshold even.

Like everyone I hate reading these reports. You get an "eyewitness", who more often then not knows nothing, and there analyzing the situation. Sheesh.

Watching fox news..."an eyewitness said the power and avionics cut off and it had to glide in". How would an eyewitness know the avionics cut off? The other report said it was louder then normal. The plane probably wouldn't be real loud if it was gliding in. Whatever, it'll be interesting to see what comes of it. Glad no one was seriously hurt.

This is a REALLY bizzare situation...the airplane was coming from India, so it should have already burned off enough fuel to fly just fine on one engine.

All I can think of is damage to both engines...birds maybe? Or maybe a serious flight control problem.
