Heard this the other day in Fort Pierce:
FPR Tower: "Duchess XXX get off the runway." Duchess: (Very strong Indian accent) "Tower! I'm lost, I need vectors to Aviator's Ramp!" |
The last one reminded me of one from a while back at Ellington Field...
N12345 is a Delta Connection Academy 172 doing touch and goes on runway 4. Nasa 901 is a NASA T-38 inbound for 4. Tower: Cessna 345, start your crosswind turn now, please, T-38 on short final. (pause) Tower: Cessna 345, Ellington tower, start your turn now. (pause) Tower: Nasa 901, go around. Nasa 901 acknowledges. Tower: Cessna 345, Ellington tower, how do you hear? (puase) Tower: Nasa 901, make right traffic runway 4, cleared to land. Tower: Cessna 345, if you hear ellington tower, ident. Cessna 345: (instructor talking) Tower, Cessna 345, we heard you we were just not at a safe altitude yet. Ellington Tower: Cessna 345, make right traffic runway 22, cleared for a full stop landing only, and call ellington tower on 123.45 when you are clear of the runway. (you can hear the smoke coming out of her ears at this point.) |

not sure I totally understand the last situation, no plane on the runway, why couldnt the Nasa plane land? From the instructor standpoint, I would have acknowledged the call regardless of altitude, and I have no fear of turning Xwind despite alt so not sure what that guy's prob was either.

i promise this will be last post in this thread about this topic as I definately do not want to take away from the humor intended of this thread. but if there was a go around conflict, then why did the tower tell the 38 to go around? also if there was a conflict then tower kinda messed up right? letting a jet get that close to a cessna?
again, not trying to start a hijack on this wonderful thread, so if there are any other comments on this issue, we will take them to PM... |

Awhile back our USAF unit was the 19th Fighter Sqdrn, aka "The Gamecocks". While flying a 4 ship of F-16's thru Cleveland center's airspace, the following transmissions happened on initial check-in:
"Cleveland, C ock 01 at FL 390." ATC: Silence. "Cleveland, C ock 01 at 390." ATC: Nothing. Crickets. Tried twice more. Dead silence. Finally, a male controller comes on--laughing--and says "C ock 01 contact Chicago on 257.1...oh, and give us a call when you land at the following phone #. You C ocks have a good day..." Turns out the female controller on duty would not respond to such a non-politically correct call sign. By the time we landed the base General had already talked to center, told the offended female to "get her mind out of the gutter", and explained that the call sign had been in use by our squadron since WW I... |
