Israel attacks Iran this year, a very possible scenario. Iran fires back, Hesbollah and Hamas join in, as does Syria. Now you have a genuine Middle East war. Result?
OIL GOES THROUGH $200.
Customer confidence plummets, people become afraid to fly for the first time since 2001, and the world's economy takes a huge hit.
What will happen at the airlines when the Israel-Iran War I'm predicting erupts? Is our profession even remotely aware of this realistic possibility?

With the price of oil now, it is in the best interests of the governments of oil-producing nations to keep this scenario from happening.

That doesn't necessarily mean that Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, etc, can prevent the scenario you suggest, but any desire they might have to secretly cheer for the bad guys will be dampened by their desire to keep the oil flowing. I think ... :-)

Israel also has theater anti-missile defense systems, which would work fine against any delivery system the iranians could come up with any time soon.
The arabs prefer Israel in it's current condition...moderate with porous borders, so they can conveniently harrass Israel at their leasure. If they force a big showdown, Isreal will win, and then turn itself into a fortress...physically and politically.
But it would be hard on oil prices in the short term.
