Default Got the call today...

Fellow APC'ers:

I got it.

As most of you know, I've been in the application process for the 1st Class Medical for the last 13 mos. Due to some legal issues (CHRC), it has taken all this time. Well, at 12:20pm EST today, I received a call from the Aerospace Medicine Office of the FAA in Washington.

I was informed that I will know in a week whether or not I get the 1st class. The kicker is that I was strongly encouraged to fax a letter stating that I would be open and receptive to being awarded a 2nd Class Medical if it was determined that for now, I didn't meet the "eligibility requirements" for the 1st Class Medical. I can re-apply for the 1st Class in one year and be awarded it as long as I keep my nose clean and exhibit a good work ethic and attitude. I faxed the letter right away.

I understand what options I have under the 2nd Class Medical. My plans are to start training the first week in November @ Ari-ben Aviator in Ft. Pierce, FL. I'm enrolling in the Pro Pilot Course; PPL thru CFI & MEI. Total cost including housing, check rides etc. is roughly $47K.

I want to thank all of you who encouraged me and shot straight from the hip in terms of what I could expect at the end of the application process. Rickair7777, SWA Pilot, freezingflyboy, Slice, LA Frequentflyer, de727ups, HSLD, Freightdog, captjns, flaps9, Diver Driver, Jetjock16 and some many more. Thanks so much.

See ya on the flightdeck!!!!

Blue skies.

Congrats! You can get started with a second class...I don't think you'll need the first within 12 months.

After reading the posts on here for who knows how long, how can you still be going to a pilot school and paying $47k for training? Are you paying cash? You are destroying yourself financially before you even know if you will be able to get a 1st class medical.

I hate to sound like the party pooper, but somebody needs to bop you up side the head and tell you to find another way, my friend. That is not the way.

Congrats on the medical, and I'm not going to be as cynical as Milky, I just hope you have a good plan, and hopefully by the time you get done with your ratings things could be swinging the other direction with the industry. There are flying jobs out there, just have to be able and willing!!!!

Milky & Ewfflyer:

I don't take it as being cynical. When I tell you that my finances are in order...I mean that...up to and including 60K if needed. I will pay for each phase with a cashier's check. When I'm done with training, I will have ZERO debt. That's right...ZERO.

Straight up; no bull***t.

I wasn't trying to be cynical. I was being realistic. If you can do it all in cash, I think you're doing it the right way. Good luck.
