i flew with one guy who was really nice and all but if you left your hot mic on at all above 10,000 and weren't talking he'd reach over and shut it off...he's like talk whenever you want but if not have the hot mic off...he was intense...

sometimes when your crusing along and we both have it on i feel like a jerk flipping it off for no reason...it's like i'm saying i don't want to talk to you so don't bother...

Same thing goes with the gum chewers who have to do it with their mouth open. I use the "How does that taste?" "Pretty good" "Well it sounds pretty good too!!"

Makes my freaking blood boil over...god I'm getting ****ed just thinking about it.

yeah some people are notorious for doing that too

Turn the volume down? Or tell him to turn it off?

I flew with the worst ever chewing-gum-with-mouth-wide-open captain last week... three legs straight, it was nonstop, amplified, in your ears, chewing sound. Normally I don't like to bother coworkers about trivial things... but I was seriously going to go APESHT. That nonstop saliva smacking sound in your ears, that's enough to make someone go insane. It's not like I can just turn the volume down, why if he has to say something important but I don't hear him because the volume's down? I asked him politely a few times, and he FINALLY stopped during the fourth leg. jesus.

who the h*ll flys around with their hot mic on anyways? The only time that switch should be flipped on is when you have something to say, otherwise keep the darn thing turned off, your co-workers will appreciate it.
Everyone that I fly with at my company is really good about keeping the hot mic off, probally because it's mentioned several times In ground school LOL

you know what, that is something i noticed when i jumpseat on RJs, that the pilots would CONSTANTLY be turning on/off this switch on the yoke. it struck me as odd, and i finally figured out it was the hot mike. because i've never really seen that while flying the saab, we generally just leave it on. it really doesnt bother me, only two instances where one captain was chewing gum obscenely loudly and another was breathing real heavily into the mike (but that one wasnt as annoying as the gum smacker.)
