What does it mean when the write (pace) next to the speed limit violation?

That is a new one on me. Each different jurisdiction has thier own way of doing things, from how they write the citation, which violation to write for, and different method they used to determine the speed (ie, radar, laser, aircraft). It could be that the officer used neither of these methods and just "paced" you with his car to get a speed. I myself would never write a ticket by doing this (too many variables). But, I might stop someone and give them a warning. I'm sure if you called the agency that wrote you the ticket they could expain it to you.

I am going to find out, because if he in fact paced me, the court should throw away the case as pacing its not very reliable and his speedo could have been wrong....Norfolk Police Department has some explaining to do.... I have never seen the PACE deal before.....

It is B/S if he gave you a ticket by paceing you... especially if it was a 10mph and under ticket. His speedo was suposed to be calibrated somewhere during the cruzers life, but it is not on any cal. schedule. Who is to say if he had winter or summer tires, their condition (tread hight). This can change his reading unless he was using GPS as reference. And who can be shure that he also had zero closure rate on you. But on the other hand, if he paced you at 30 mph above the posted speed, your f#@%ed. Not 30mph worth of variables in this math problem!

Well I was going about 40 to 45 MPH in a area that I thought it was 45 MPH as everybody and their mother goes 55 to 65 MPH. I never looked for the speed limits because the road is so busy that I try to keep a look out for everyone and avoid an accident as here in Norfolk most individuals cannot drive. I was in fact speeding because the limit was 35 MPH. He gave me a 50 on a 35. Which it could have been a 42 on a 35 if his speedo its not set up right. He used to be a PO for the University where I go and now he is with the City PD. The Cruisers for the University dont have Radar so that might be why he is used to pacing.
