The fact that we welcome people "kicked out of every decent country on earth" and make them Americans.
We can emigrate to Thailand, Switzerland, Tahiti, and become a citizen(maybe), but still always be a foreigner, an "American". But if you come to America, you can become a citizen AND an American.
AND gun ownership is a RIGHT, not a privilege.

Everyone loves to bash the US, but when people want to escape the prison that is their life in another country they come here.
I am proud that my country has no caste system, no royalty, no arranged marriages and no limit on how far you can rise.
Come here penniless and work your butt off and you too can be a millionaire, and no one will look down on you (well, maybe some lazy jealous louts).
This is still the land of opportunity. It is yours for the taking.

Agree with most of everything that has been said, however the greatest aspect of being an American is the fact that after 200+ years, the person who will be sworn in as President of the United States of America on January 20, 2009........looks like me!

I am proud of all of the people that make up our country, The men and women who are ready at a moments notice to bring harm to those who threaten our way of life, and I am proud of the fact that it is neither black nor white. We are a grey area, in which, religion is a motivator, but not the primary one. Money is also a motivator, but again, not the primary one. Freedom is the primary motivator... The ability to just be who you are, without fear of being tossed in jail... Gay, Lesbian, Black, White, Jew, Hispanic, all bleed red, white, and blue. All are Americans.

I am proud of the way Americans generally tolerate differences among themselves, and how the playing field is generally fair no matter what race creed or religion you have. Mr. Obama being elected president recently is a prime example of this.
I am proud of the way Americans talk about things so openly and without restriction online and in the press. It gets hot at times but at least we have the right.
I am proud of the way we have individual weapon ownership within reason, and the trust and good sense of the citizens this carries. There are problems with this law but I think the advantages outweigh the problems. I am also proud the Supreme Court decided the right to bear arms extends to the individual.
I am proud of the act that in America education is available to anyone. I know for fact our country will bend over backward to help you go to school if you want to learn.
I am proud of the way volunteers rush forward to defend our country whenever the goverment calls them to action.
It truly is great country we live in.
