Yesterday I pulled my Swift out of the hangar, cranked, climbed up and went direct to a small city I have never visited before.

I land at a small airport, buy a little fuel and the FBO gives me an airport car to visit the local burg. I meander around the town for a few hours talking to people such as the local weekly newspaper editor and hear some great stories.

I love the entire concept of flight, the stick and rudder, the mental, the philosophy, the freedom. Day, night, VFR, Cat III, the seasons... all of it. 40+ yrs in the cockpit and I still enjoy it.

If Sully had taken that flock of birds after V1, he may have had a valid reason for a post-V1 abort.

IF Sully had taken the birds after V1 off LGA 04 he still would have wound up in the water. But in this case he would have gone through the stanchions for 22 with a much greater chance of injuries/fatalities.

LGA has not been kind to USAir.

Thread revival. My favorite has always been flying right after a tstorm rolls through and it being nice and smooth. Watching the fireworks from the air the other night was cool too.

The view you get from one.

Someone else mentioned it in this thread, but I have about a million cool memories tied somehow in my brain to the smell of jet fuel.

For me it's the cabin. There's just something awesome about being in a small cabin on top of everything. Secluded with the best view available.

Someone dug deep to pull this one out of the dust bin.

Watching the sun rise more than once in a day. And dodging aerial traffic in central Florida; Winter Haven is beast.

Taking off in the winter from Loring AFB in the winter. The weather was always cold and cloudy for months at a time. Passing about 4000 ft there would be an absolutely clear brilliant blue sky. The sun did exist. Sometimes you weren't really sure.

Hand flying from brake release to 18K. Then back down from 10K.
