Along those same line, an excellent book titled Thirty seconds in Heaven. Can't recall the author.

If you read that, be sure to read "Burning Down the Shack" by James De Young.

I really liked two recent books I read:

Fiction: The Hit, by David Baldacci

Non fiction: Bunker Hill - A City, a Siege, a Revolution by Nathaniel Philbrick

"The Art of Racing in the Rain" - Garth Stein
"Flying the Line" - George Hopkins
"1Q84" - Haruki Murakami
"Out of the Dark" - David Webber

Some of the recents I've finished and enjoyed.

I quite enjoy David Sedaris books. Infinite Jest, The Boy Detective Fails, and Stephan King's Full Dark, No Stars are good ones I've read recently.

My personal favorite is 'Flight of Passage' by Rinker Buck. True story of two teenagers that fly a rebuilt cub from coast to coast.

I agree, "Blood Meridian" is a must read. Judge Holden has to be one of the greatest literary characters of all time. Much of the the novel is based on actual events.

V., Gravity's Rainbow, and Mason & Dixon by Thomas Pynchon. Probably the best American author for the last half of the 20th century. Hard reads though.
