Flight Attendants may be approaching this from a good angle
Association of Professional Flight Attendants to Demonstrate at Four Airports
The flight attendants might be attacking the problem from a good angle. Most passengers will not sympathize with pilots. After all, look at our hourly pay rates. We are a bunch of overpaid whiners (please note the sarcasm). I think in the court of public opinion we lose almost every time.
Maybe we should approach it from the angle of educating the passengers. This way, we get a bunch of negative publicity for the airlines. "Hey, the airline you are using today pays its pilots well below the poverty level." This could also be a good way of starting to push on rest requirements. "Your pilot may have been working 15 hours today before starting your flight. The government has recently changed train-driver duty days to 12 hours; but they still say it is ok for your pilot to work 16."
There has been attempts on this site prior to start an organized effort. This might be a good way (and legal) to organize our efforts. We could have similar demonstrations coordinated at multiple airports on a specific day. We could then follow up with some more demonstrations a couple months later at other airports.
It would be good to follow the flight attendants efforts and see how they have it planned out and how it works. From looking at the event website, they might be changing it when the demonstrations begin.
