Unbelievable. I'd like to find out how long those guys were inadvertant IMC and what the pilot was doing to react to the problem.

For the young guys out there, rules for Inadvertant IMC.

1. Don't go inadvertant IMC
2. If you do go inadvertant IMC quickly realize that it is better to be alive than macho.
3. Climb as fast as you can, declare an emergency, and get vectors to the nearest airport or an IFR clearance to your destination.

If any amatures are out there trying to do formation flying every brief needs to include an IIMC procedure, to include which way the aircraft are breaking and to what altitude to avoid hitting each other, and an emergency safe altitude. Even if your departure airport is SKC P6SM.

according to another website, the guy flying this was a real estate developer and agent, and the FAA had found him thru that youtube posting, I dare think he has recieved a LOI at this point.

Comments on you tube say the tail number is N65335 registered to this guy http://www.bruceellison.com/home.htm

Dang! Scud running - through a valley. That just sounds stupid and these guys went out and did it.

Pretty sobering stuff.

IMO, that's not a near miss. I'd consider this CFIT. These guys are luck they lived to tell the tale.

It is absolutly CFIT, the wing contacted terrain, while in flight...they are extremly lucky to tell the tale.

Man.
That must be the most reckless operation of an aircraft I've ever seen on tape...
Hope this guy got his license and medical revoked... To endanger that many lives..
