DTW tips and info

If you like to bike DTW has some great parks with miles of paved trails. I believe they were called the Metro Parks and a sticker gets you in to all of them, but if you bike in you don't need a sticker. The only one I've been to is Lower Huron Metropolitan Park just SW of the airport but it's great and I would assume the others are just as nice.

I used to flight instruct @ Y47, which is in SW Oakland county. I could get down to DTW in 45 min from there. The town was South Lyon. Overall, I was all over the place, had many local friends from the motorcycle club I was in, so I would go down to Plymouth, Canton, Ypsi, AA, Novi, Royal Oak, Sterling Heights, etc... I never felt in danger etc at any of these. The only time I did was when we went to a Tigers game once, and parts of Waterford.
The general mantra of Detroit is junk, which the actual area is, but the surrounding area's are good and suffer because of the "Big City's" reputation.

Looking for one room-mate to share a 2 BR near DTW as of SEP 1.
Please PM for details.
BTW, to the mod that moved this thread here, I thought it would be much more useful in the regional section, were a bunch of Comair guys are about to move to DTW rather then here where no one sees this.

Native SE Michigander here....General rule of thumb, stay west of 275, and north of I94. For the most part, all of the neighborhoods mentioned here are livable with a few stand outs. I'm in Novi, and will probably will be until I leave Michigan. It's 30-35 minutes from parking lot to parking lot typically depending on which part of orange barrel season we're in (a Detroit phenominon - read road construction that never really improves anything). PM me if you'd like, I have an in with a great apartment community in Novi that would probably leap at the opportunity to rent en mass to airline types, usually starting around 650 for a two bedroom in a great location. And yes, there actually is great night life, food and recreation in Novi.....

Can anyone PM me the names of these so called "Hotels" that are often used as crashpads. I don't mean the Comfort Inn where you can stay for $30/nt and have your own room. I heard there were actual crasph pad airport hotels. Thanks!
