Tom Cruise Eyed for Role in 'Top Gun' Sequel: Report - ABC News
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Paramount Pictures has made offers to producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott for a sequel to their 1986 feature "Top Gun," with Christopher McQuarrie eyed to update the script, New York magazine's Vulture blog reported.
Tom Cruise is expected to make an appearance as Maverick, the report said.
David Ellison, the 27-year-old son of Oracle founder Larry Ellison, a trained aerobatic pilot, is a key driver of the project, according to Vulture.
He recently raised $350 million to finance films and struck a first-look deal with Paramount. The first of their film collaborations will be "Mission: Impossible IV," starring Cruise.

Hollywood has no originality anymore, how many more sequal movies are we going to have until we have sequals of sequals? I think they've remade every TV show they could, even the cartoons. So what's next?

Top Gun 2 Plot Idea
After Charlie and Maverick meet at the bar, they date for a while, then end up being "friends" as she called it anyway.
Maverick is nearing the end of his stint as a Top Gun instructor, and the Navy is downsizing, and few options are open, so He looks for another job. He soon applies with Pan Am. Meanwhile, he gets a call from Iceman, who is going to work for Executive Jet Aviation, seems the new CEO has a unique business model he is going to try. Iceman encourages Mav to join him, but Maverick declines, wondering why Iceman would want to fly a little jet.
Pan Am tanks before Mav makes captian, and he finds himself doing day hire King Air 200 FO work, while looking for an airline job. He calls up Cougar, who is flying at Federal Express. Cougar tries to get Maverick to come over to work for Fred, but Mav sees no glamour in flying boxes around.
Maverick continues to try to get on at UAL, CAL, and AA, while he manages to fly a Lear 25 as a day hire off and on. Eventually, he gets hired by an upstart airline flying 757s, called North American Airlines. He makes pals with a fellow crewmember from the Pacific Northwest, and they have adventures until North American folds.
Mav spends his days on APC and giving BFRs to the handful of pilots that fly out of his local small airport.
Then he gets the call for a PC-12 job, an aircraft he has never flown...He must leave that night for Orlando to go to SimCom for training.
As he is not current, his first sim session leaves alot to be desired, his sim partner tells him he is dangerous.
He goes back to the Hawthorne Suites in time for the Manager's Reception, where he unwinds with a cocktail....Then, he meets a lady who is there for an MU-2 Recurrent, and "You've Lost that Lovin' Feelin' " starts playing on the sound system.....
