Would you encourage your child today to become a pilot?

Yes--military. Airline as an option after the military.

Absolutely. Of course you didn't say a professional pilot.

I,d take them up a few times to see if they liked it or not and if not then I would'nt press the issue.
They ,ll find out what they want to do in due time as always.

I would if that's what they wanted to do. A career should be up to the individual, not the parent. I would be honest about the positives and negatives since there are plenty of both.

I agree with Rama, if money isn't a concern and they want to follow their dreams, more power to them!

You can't get any more truer than that.

a job where money is not a concern? I have done those but it was called volunteer/mission work

I did not encourage my kids to make aviation a career.

I guess we both have different outlooks on life then. I see a lot of kids my age choosing majors that will make them money, and I'm pretty sure 10-15 years down the road they will despise their career path. When I say money not being a concern, I'm not suggesting the minimum wage earning, rather a career path where living comfortably & having a kick arse career are hand in hand, (which by the way is possible at any level of the aviation ladder, people just like to complain a lot).

Of course I would detail the uphill battles associated with becoming a Commercial Airline Pilot, but I'll never prevent someone from following their dreams.
