Logbook Pro/ ADPL charging $5-$10/mo Jan 1
NC Software The designers of Logbook Pro and ADPL is going to start charging up to $9.95 a month to use the schedule importer that imports you schedules in ADPL and Logbook Pro. I am outraged at this dirty, underhanded business practice. I would never have purchased these two products if I know I would have to pay to use them every month, not only that but repay the entire purchase price of the product every year. This is not what was advertised when I purchased it. In fact here is what was promised. Special emphasis on "Import your schedule or bidline package with our FREE schedule importer, now supporting over 78 airline schedule formats with new schedule importer formats added daily." web.archive.org/web/20070206071605/www.logbookpro.com/Learn.aspx?ProductID=airline-pilots-daily-aviation-logbook

Personally if this takes effect I am sending a report to the BBB (Better Business Bureau).

Here is their announcement:
26 Nov 2010: NC Software announces the immediate availability of Airline Schedule Importer 8.0. The location of the Airline Schedule Importer changed and is now integrated into your "My Account" area of Logbook Pro Flight Log Software for Pilots - iPhone, iPad, PC, Mac, Android. To access the new schedule importer click the link below. Please update your favorites/bookmarks.

As the new schedule importer is integrated with your personal account, login is now required. If you have an account at NC Software simply login or use the forgot password link to reset your account. Otherwise create a new account on the right side of the sign-in page.
Effective 1 Jan 2011 the schedule importer will be a subscription based service. Subscriptions are offered in three term lengths: 30-days, 1 year, and 2 years. Subscriptions cost as little as $5.00/month based on the two year plan. It is FREE for the remainder of 2010.
The new schedule importer system provides new functionality and integrations and is now associated wth your personal cloud storage at NC Software. Logbook Pro PC edition can now import your stored schedule information directly with the new integration in Logbook Pro 1.11.0 and later and no longer requires importing of .trp files. In mid-December we hope to release the updates to Logbook Pro for iPhone and iPad which will also offer schedule importing using the new system.
We improved the editing capability with a more efficient inline editor by clicking the action buttons on the right side of a row. Your trips are saved to the cloud automatically until downloaded or imported by a participating application such as Logbook Pro PC or the iPhone/iPad apps (when available). As before you can download the required files to import into your APDL Palm OS or Windows Mobile software. New: You can now download iCalendar (.ics) files now to import your schedules into your favorite calendar application with or without reminders. Set the reminder interval as desired prior to downloading the ics file. UTC is no longer required for your trip source although it is still preferred. We now capture block and credit time and use that for the duration calculations allowing timezones to be ignored.
For complete details on the new airline schedule importer, features, and subscriptions click here Airline Schedule Importer 8.0 to read our release announcement. With a subscription based model we will be able to better provide you new products and services in the future.
We hope you enjoy the new features of Airline Schedule Importer 8. We look forward to bringing you more great products and services in the coming year.
Sincerely,
Neal Culiner

This is a bunch of crap. I wish I never purchased this product in the first place. Especially with all of the other ONLINE electronic logbooks that do nearly everything that Logbookpro can do. Sure it is more powerful and can do a lot more, but I do not use it for that! Just put the time in and print it out when I get to an interview. Lame.

Yeah, I have been carrying around my Palm, anxiously awaiting an iPhone version of ADPL. If this is how it's gonna be, I'll just use the old PC version importer, continue to carry around the Palm, and watch for a suitable iPhone app that does what ADPL did. I'm NOT paying $60/year just to import my schedule. I'll spend a half hour each month entering it myself first.
Sad coming from a company that's always bragged about not charging a dime for updates to it's programs. Now they're charging a subscription for no update at all. Talk about a bait & switch!

From what you've said they promised a free tool to generate flight reports FROM your logbook. And now they want to charge for the ability to DOWNLOAD schedules from the airline. These don't appear to be the same thing, to me at least.
That said, I don't think I'd be happy if I'd bought the product thinking it was a one time purchase, with, maybe an annual maintenance for upgrades, but NOT a subscription service.

I understand that you're upset. And I think I would be also, however I don't think I'm understanding, and I don't think anyone at the BBB would either.
