All of you who want a type rating in some sort of airliner are crazy! Leave that kind of stuff to the days at work, and get a type rating in something like this....

If I had a few million dollars I would travel the world and get "frivolous" type ratings...anything would do. I would for sure start out with the DC 9 cuz the -10 was the first airliner I ever flew on.

The DC-3 was the first airplane that the airlines could operate profitably without relying on government mail subsides. In that sense, it was an historic first..."that started it all"

On a side note; Until at least the mid nineties (still may be the case, don't know for sure due to parts availability); Considering acquisition/operating costs vs payload (weight and bulk), there was no other airplane that could match the performance of the 3! That is why that old girl is still being used as a workhorse today. No other airplane comes close in ubiquity/longevity.
