Default How to Commute Question

I was wondering, if your regional airline bases you in a certain city rather far from your home, (pretty far to drive) how do you commute there? If you were to fly would you have to pay to get there? This isn't my situation I'm just curious.

Most airline pilots commute to work via the CASS (Cockpit Access Security System) system. It's a background check process that gives you the ability to jumpseat with participating carriers. It's a courtesy and a privilege that captains offer to you and you would offer to pilots of other companies. It's essentially letting you fly on a standby basis for free so you can go back & forth to work.
