OK so I know what I was taught in school and I know what my answer is to this question. I just want to make sure I am not reading it wrong and that the rest of the free world agrees with me on the answer.
32% of X =
X would be
3,824 * (170 divided by 272 multiplied by 32%) = X
SO we are looking for 32% of X.
32% of X =
X would be
3,824 * (170 divided by 272 multiplied by 32%) = X
SO we are looking for 32% of X.

Sorry but I just don't understand the question. You are looking for 32% of X? Then that is just .32X . If that's the case, the equation you have listed for X is 764.8, and 32% of that is 244.736. Those the numbers you got? If you are entering it into a calculator, make sure it is scientific so it can handle Orders of Operations (PEMDAS).
That is exactly what I got for the answer. I just wanted to make sure that some "new math" hasn't come around that made me wrong. I had a lawyer tell me that there were two different ways to interpret the above formula. I guess they don't teach much math in law school.

Actually, it doesn't matter if your calculator handles orders of operations, since multiplication and division (the only operations in the equation) are of equal order.
3,824 * (170/272 * 32%) = 3824 *170/272*.32 = .32*170/272*3824 = 764.8
3,824 * (170/272 * 32%) = 3824 *170/272*.32 = .32*170/272*3824 = 764.8

That wouldn't be right because you must do the math in parenthesis first. It changei.s the answer if you dont

Another way to express the above calculation is:
3,824/1 * 170/1 * 1/272 * 32/100 = 764.8
No matter the what order you put those fractions in, the answer is the same.

Ummm, try it out for yourself. In THIS calculation, all operations are multiplication and division: same level of operations.
Another way to express the above calculation is:
3,824/1 * 170/1 * 1/272 * 32/100 = 764.8
No matter the what order you put those fractions in, the answer is the same.
