Pilot sentenced to 6 months for flying drunk:
DENVER – A United Express pilot convicted of flying a commercial flight while drunk will serve six months in federal prison.
Thirty-three-year-old Aaron Jason Cope of Norfolk, Va., was sentenced Friday in Denver federal court.
Judge John Tunheim also ordered Cope to serve six months in home detention after completing his prison term followed by two years of supervised release.
Cope was convicted in June of flying under the influence on a flight from Austin, Texas, to Denver in December 2009. The flight was operated by Shuttle America for United Express.
The plane's captain thought he smelled alcohol on Cope's breath and a breathalyzer showed Cope had a blood alcohol content of 0.09 percent.
The Federal Aviation Administration prohibits anyone from flying with a blood alcohol content of 0.04

Again I ask this question
"The plane's captain thought he smelled alcohol on Cope's breath"
If this is the case then why did the Cpt.allow him to continue and whatever happened to looking out for your fellow pilots ?

+1. If you show up drunk to fly with me you are putting my life at risk and I won't think twice about calling the police and making sure you are escorted off in handcuffs.

This. So the captain managed to miss in the hotel, van ride, terminal, and preflight that he had alcohol on his breath?
I mean I don't blame the captain in the slightest, I agree he should have been arrested, I just can't believe it took him that long to figure it out. 0.09 is pretty up there, wonder how smashed he was the night before.

Plenty of chances to exercise ones authority so why not use it before it becomes an embarassing situation is all I,m saying .
