usmc sgt,

I know two people that did their initial CFI in a twin and then did a single engine add on. I think that is a much more difficult way to handle it, but you do get to build up your multi-engine time that way. The second person that did it, had to becuase he had taken out loans that were "managed" by the school we trained at and they were forced out of business by loss of their lease. So, he had to burn off the outstanding balance of his loans in a hurry, or he would have lost the money in the school's bankruptcy. He's had a difficult time finding multi-engine students since then, has hardly flown in the twin and is now working on the single engine add on.

I think its a great idea to work on the II in a twin.

I will definately take that into consideration and contemplate doing the initial CFI in a single and then just the II and the MEI in the twin. I am glad I did just the initial PMEL because every hour after 15 has been PIC for whatever that is worth in the long run. I just got my letter from the VA approving the commerical instrument in the twin and it approves me for 90 hours of dual and 60 hours of solo at my cost of $58/hr in the duchess after reimbursements, hard to go wrong at those rates.
If that's the case, to hell with the MEI, just use that time and then get the CFI and II to get to the magic 1000 total. You'll already have more than enough multi. Just go buy an hour every few weeks to stay current. You'll save money in the long run.
