The interview looks a lot at how you react to things.

That was my take away too. At first I was surprised by some of the highly qualified people that didn't get the job. Then when I went through the HR portion I understood. The only landmines they have are personality ones. They try to get under your skin to see how you handle conflict. They want people who can deescalate situations. While I don't think mind games should not be used for important career interviews, I do see the benefits of hiring pilot group that knows how to keep an upset passenger from starting a Twitter war.

Except when they hire day 1 and then day 2 the shrink portion they are banned for life. That's happened to many guys.

Treat day 2 like day 1. It's way better now than the unqualified nurse digging around in my arm trying to find a really prominent vein and then wiring the EKG wrong asking me if I'm ok because I flatlined.

It's not even that they try to get under your skin. They hand you the shovel and let you think they are trying to get under your skin if you're willing to let the demons in your head go there. Dig if you're looking for it...

Hey lets spend 20 minutes looking at all your high school and college transcripts except your 3.87 GPA for your MBA because that was correspondence and actually counts against you. Hmm you also say that you might have failed a daily sortie in military UPT but don't have your UPT gradebook to prove it? That's a red flag for sure, there's the door don't come back.

Seriously. 2 topics in the interview, my high school grades and the fact that I honestly stated that while I never failed any checkride of any sort, I probably failed *something* in UPT but don't have my gradebook for details. 1 year re-apply, which for an ex-USAF fighter pilot who was a stan-eval chief means don't come back.

They've got a hiring system that works for them, and it's got a few landmines in there. Step on one and you don't need to reapply. I've got a bunch of friends at Delta who say it's a great place to work but the interview team was clearly triggered by my high school grades before I walked into the room and it went downhill from there. They didn't ask a single question about my flying experience. Not one. The hardball question - "So, what do you think about education NOW?"

Spirit and SWA interviews were polar opposites of Delta. Half an hour chatting about flying, then go over the logbook to find some more flying stories to chat about. When can you start? Totally different approach.

Just wow! High school grades! Do they ask about FAA written scores as well? At least there is a public study about those scores and accident rates.

Maybe, just maybe, certain companies have GPA, College degree, volunteering, alcohol tolerance, etc standards because they correlate to future performance. A person who volunteers more is a better fit at an air line whereas a person who guzzles beer probably would fit in better in an airline in the southwest. Just sayin.

Yep guess the boobs or different skin color makes the best contribution to the company.

The last time I checked, hiring someone because of their boobs is sexist and hiring someone because of their skin color, regardless of the color, is racist. However I worked for one company who puts more weight on a job applicant’s demographics than their qualifications.
