I agree, I've been two legging it for 10 years, we all know the risks, and assume such. But the line, "what's your excuse next time", is pretty douchey. Someone that hardlines a commuter with that BS, in my opinion, is far more toolish. It IS professional courtesy, in due time, what goes around, comes around. I don't take that as a threat or whining. Skywest had every right to the JS, but she is not, in the right. No one is required to exercise professional courtesy, and some, as evident, may not be aware of such things. There will be a time when she will need someone to help her out, and she may not get that help, simple as that, that is not a threat, it's the reality.

My exception is the coarse arrogance of the response, "get a tissue"? Here's one for you, be the adult, be a professional, assume the best of your fellow aviators, don't be a douche about it.

No this is exactly what happened, it's the entire story. She never checked loads for me, she just said there's other flights leaving today.

The bottom line is...you are out of line. I don't care if she wanted to ride the JS just for the view, if it is her metal, and not yours, you have no right to the JS ahead of her. At DAL we can book the JS for "personal travel" (though not as early as guys going to/from work) and I can promise you, if the only option is I get to my "personal" appointment by riding my OWN JS...or you, an offline guy gets to go to work while commuting on my metal...you will be taking a different JS.

Now if I could take even the cruddiest seat in the back, to include a cabin JS, to help you out, I would. But if there were no other options, I cannot believe that you expect someone on their own metal to stay at the gate while you get to go to work on another airline's metal, and she gets to not use the privilege of the JS on her own metal.

For what it's worth, I've been bumped by last minute shows over the course of my career. It is what it is and can't be thin skinned about it. I've taken the last seat in economy in the row between two whales that haven't bathed in weeks so an offliner could get the jump seat. That too is what the career is all about.

In hope you will extend the same courtesy to your fellow professionals.

The choice of commuting comes with risks and situations just as the one mentioned. The Skywest pilot had priority for the jumpseat and exercised it. Many at other carriers would do the same. It really does not matter why, where, out of uniform etc. She had the right to be somewhere just as much as anyone else and she was under no obligation to give up that right or offer you any alternatives. Morale of the story? Move to base if you can!

come on dude. its her metal...period. What if the engagement party was for her best friend since she was a kid? would it be ok then? should she miss her best friends one engagement party so that some OAL guy can get on a JS? would you?

when i am traveling its for a reason and i will bump anyone off my own companies JS if I need to. And i dont get butt hurt when i get bumped....its like getting mad at the sun for being hot.

Guys, I get it. I stated that a million times already. The part I didn't like was the way she talked to me when she did it. That's is. She didn't need to tell me a reason and she didn't need to smile when she did it. That's all there is to it.

I know it's her own metal and I know the priority. All I'm saying if you bump someone, don't be a dick about it.

After reading his responses, IMHO, Beechedjet is the TOTD in this case and a contender for Tool of the Month.

Summary- BJ whines about his bump and "outs" another pilot on a public forum. We only get "his" side of the story and "his" impressions of the other pilot in what was probably a less than a minute encounter in what sounds like an awkward an stress elevated moment for both parties. His highlighting her on a public forum, especially since she is a member of a small subset of one company is pathetic and whiny. This kind of snap judgment on a persons character is generally the kind of petty crap I've seen for years out of flamboyant, rainbow flag type FA's who treat pilots or fellow co-workers like lepers for an entire 3-day because of one perceived interpersonal infraction.

Both BJ and the other pilot may have displayed non-verbal cues and the other pilot may have stuck her foot in in mouth by accident. From BJ's story, it sounded like she made the effort to explain the best she could, she had an function to attend and BJ made his judgment about the worthiness of her travel plans compared to his. He simply felt more entitled.

We all screw up, and I'm am certainly not above doing so also. We all step on our ####s and unintentionally p-iss others off, big deal. 99% of the time I find out there is other stuff going on or it's a mistake. Both sides in this case may be a little socially inept, especially with a male/female dynamic. BFD.

My suggestion is for BJ to admit he was totally 100% wrong and apologize on this thread.
