Introduce yourself

Howdy all,
My name is Jake and I'm currently looking to fulfil my childhood dreams as a pilot. I've dreamt about being a military aviator since I was a child, but I never saw eye to eye to some of the operations overseas at the moment.
Since Nov '12, I've received my PPL and instrument rating. I'm currently working on my commercial license, and I'm networking as much as possible. My part time job as a lineman at my local airport has greatly opened such doors.

Can't wait to get back to civilian flying. Flew helicopters and King Airs in the Reserves; and in civilian jobs flew parachutists, flew freight in Piston twins, checks in Lear 25/35s, and RJs for a now defunct airline - then went on Active Duty. Leaving Active Duty after 15 years (with 30 as Reservist). Wanting advice before applying for jobs.

WARTHOG: I've been there (pumping gas, parking planes...). Put off military academy to study philosophy, then took 10 years to become both a military pilot in the Reserves, and an airline pilot. If you are unsure about the military - recommend spending time with ROTC Cadets or Cadre at your local college. If you would not be able to put your politics of philosophy second to their lives, then military is not for you. After 30 years of service, I can say it is about your fellow service member, and honoring your commitment to the people of the Country. Go all-in either way - nothing dishonorable about keeping to your beliefs and following the civilian route to becoming an airline pilot instead of a military pilot. I would not recommend doing both at once like I did - too much school, and not enough flying!
