Gen Mattis is not married, so I guess they couldn't catch him in this particular net But if he gets the axe too, my suspicions will be confirmed.

Perhaps you could do just a smidgen of research on Holly Petraeus, then you'd understand why her husband and your comment are dead wrong.
I've met her in person, and my wife actually shares my opinion. I'm fully aware of all the stuff she does, she's the perfect senior-officer wife, but I certainly NEVER wanted one of those....maybe deep-down Petraeus didn't either.
Great lady I'm sure, but I can see why Petraeus (or anyone else) might be tempted to stray when confronted with a choice of Holly vs. Broadwell.
I didn't say it was right or justified, But I understand how it happened. My opinion, or yours, or the FBIs, or anyone else's is totally irrelevant on that subject...that's between the two people involved and them alone.
EDIT: Looking at the news this morning, it seems like Petraeus is in agreement with you.

I'm not sure what's more pathetic...the guys who think adultery is ok if your wife of 37 years is frumpy OR the supposedly 2 brilliant military men who discovered Viagra or testosterone shots (maybe under the guise of improving their "muscle tone") and couldn't keep their pants zipped. Now, what would be just desserts is for both their wives to dump them and they're left with no wife and no mistress.

Sorry, but the women can't claim ZERO culpability.
Enough responsibility to go around ya know.

You're absolutely right...HOWEVER, those two bimbos didn't have nearly as much to lose as the esteemed generals.

But the FACT remains, the women can't claim to be "victims", nor that it was all at the behest of the men.
Women can drive, vote, as well as make their own decisions who they choose to hang around/have an affair with. It's 2012, NOT 1912.

True, the men had more to lose than the women.

And I DIDN'T say that's what YOU said, did I? But your post painted it as one sided.

The sex part of this whole thing is just for public show and amounts to nothing.
When was the last time you saw a public official purged for sex, or even running a brothel?
The real subject involves jobs given, people murdered and blame displaced, but you are not going to hear about that-it is not for public consumption and will take place behind closed doors.
