Default Meaning of Christmas

I'm not discounting any religion or the celebrations of other faiths. I was just curious what Christmas means to others.

I have a faith, but not one that would bring me to church. I just haven't found one religion that I completely agree with.

Ok, on subject now. Christmas to me meant the gathering of family and friends for good company and food. I would be lying if I said that I hadn't fallen into the commerciallism of it all.

Today marks an anniversary for me and my family. Eight years ago today I was told that my son was sick. He had a cancerous brain tumor and needed surgery to remove it. Four days later he was in the hospital undergoing surgery. My family and I spent 3 months in the hospital during his radiation treatments and the start of chemotherapy. Christmas wasn't celebrated until we got home as a family. The tree and decorations were still up when we got home. Suddenly getting "things" for Christmas didn't mean anything to me. I got the best gift of all that Christmas, my son's life was saved. He will never be the same little boy he was before the surgery, but he's still with me and I am so greatful for that.

To me, sharing time with my family and friends holds more meaning to me.

The meaning of Christmas to me? Let's just say it has nothing to do with commercialism and is priceless.

Christmas to me is about how you can help other people that have less than others. People that have had everything taken away from them are the ones I try to help during this season. I really don't make a big deal about gifts anymore.

I'm Athiest but here is my take.

Its the one time out of the year where we all can take a step back, disconect from it all and just spend time with those that matter most to you and enjoy what all of the stress and fuss of working the entire year is all about, your family.

Christmas to me is about getting to spend time with my family. If I can't be with my family because I'm doing what I love I enjoy getting others to a place where they can spend Christmas with those they love.

Giving to others less fortunate is also a huge part of it. In fact my wife and I have a 2 big bags of clothes, movies and other random stuff we've gathered that we don't need anymore that we will donate this year

Merry Christmas to all!

All in this thread have Christmas pegged!

Slow down and make some extra time to be with and thankful for family and friends you may have.

Take some extra time out remember how treasured life is and how fast it can be taken away.

Help others that truly need and deserve a helping hand in life to keep them going. There but for the sake of a single occurrence in life, anyone of us could lose everything and be destitute.

I try to go out of my way even more this time of year to be extra courteous and kind to folks. It is very hard for me to do this at times dealing with knuckleheads and such non-caring rude people out there. I just feel it is the right thing to do. I hope that some of the people will in-turn pass on courtesy and kindness to others. That is a chain reaction I can live with.

Christmas to me means spending time with myself in a Hilton property many miles from home. Its been a tradition for me for the past 6 years.

I hear at home though its a real nice day spent with my wife, son, and family.

How can we discuss the meaning of Christmas without getting into religion. I think we all know the "Reason for the Season." I cannot respond to this thread without violating TOS as Christmas is a celebration of the birth of the Lord and Savior.

Yes - - so for those that wish to respond to this thread should keep the TOS in mind.

Christmas? You mean that day we get paid time and a half? I don't remember what it's like to be at home for the holidays.
