Logistical nightmares aside, our laws based on discrimination would prohibit such a practice.

This is fair and equitable. A pound is a pound. What is unfair is charging a small person the same as a large one, as the small person winds up paying more per pound than the large person.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with "discrimination", unless it be discrimination against smaller people.

This is already a matter of common practice, as a small person spends less on food than someone who is much bigger (regardless of body fat percentages).

We'd have to use actual passenger (and perhaps baggage) weights, which would lead to some very unpleasant surprises when the W&B numbers get crunched. It ain't gonna happen.

^^^^^Not true some of the biggest eatters I know are skinny little guys.

I think that's likely the biggest reason. The "FAA Px weights" probably work out to their favor much of the time, and they wouldn't be able to get the same volume of people and revenue otherwise. Be interesting to really see the numbers. I've always thought of some kind of machine/scale at the terminal as you walk past the gate agent could be relatively easy to implement for W&B.

That may be true (I've seen it myself), but "some" is the operative word there. Meanwhile, MOST large folks will eat more than small(er) people. Put another way, on average most large(r) folk's food bill is greater than small(er) folk's bill.

Compare, for example, a little old lady vs. a NFL lineman (to use an example of realistic extremes).

A pound is a pound. Tickets prices should be based upon weight. You all know this to be true, fair, and equitable. Weight, and it's costs, bear a massive penalty in aviation. Charging larger people more per ticket would not be discrimination, it would be reality as imposed by the laws of physics.

Alright but here's the deal. They should put up a WAW (world aviation wrestling) wrestling cage in the terminal, winner gets the cheaper fare looser stays on the ground. That would be fair I think. And winners get to wear speedo style wrastlin tights in flight.

That's a great plan. This way the skinny, scrawny (probably height-challenged) "Napoleons" out there will be grounded!
