Default North Korea Threatens

... a merciless nuclear strike on the US in uhh well maybe a day or two... Austin, Texas a prime target because lil' Kim is just plain nuts.

Important film with strategic and tactical explanation:

I know a lot of people are laughing at his threats, especially the one about striking Washington D.C. and Austin, TX.

What I'm really concerned about is if they do have a missile with decent range that can get to considerable altitude, and detonate a nuclear bomb in the upper atmosphere, you then have an EMP.

All electronics down, and in 1 sec the US will be back in the Stone Age. I have always been more afraid of that then full nuclear war.

I better dust off the old Ruger 22 LR and start practicing on getting me some squirrel.

Comic book fiction, makes for good book sales but current tech does not support it.

Many single solar events have caused far more EMP damage than all nuclear high airburst events combined. We didn't go into a stone age.

Many common electronic items are far better shielded than many of us understand and even a specific EMP weapon would have rather limited area effect. You should see how they test the protection of the electronic brain boxes on cars, it would take a super massive pulse to put a dent in anything so well protected. Aircraft FADECS are even more protected.

x2 What Jungle said re. EMP.

As far as any missile-delivered nuke...I'm reasonably confident that they don't have a device that is sufficiently miniaturized (and flight-capable) to bolt onto one of their operational missiles.

Can they shoot missiles at significant targets (Seoul, Tokyo)? Yes. Very low reliability, very large CEP, very low Pk. And that's without any US BMD interference. But even if it hit, it wouldn't have a nuke onboard. Yet.

Default Other important news

All that monkeying around has finally caught up with Justin Bieber (literally) after officials in Germany confiscated his monkey because Biebs didn't have the proper paperwork.

Bieber arrived at the Munich airport on Thursday and was confronted about the monkey when he went through customs. Since Bieber didn't have the proper documentation for the monkey (and you know how Germans about having your papers in order) they took the monkey into quarantine.

Touch my monkey, love him. Now is the time we dance on Sprockets.

More excellent NK film, they actually hit the mark on this one, all they need is a bit more US aid.

I don't think China wants NK to have that capability. After all, it just wouldn't do for China's pet monkey to be able to turn and bite it's master if it chose to do so.

I would prefer NK to have an "unfortunate accident" than to commit more US forces to yet another conflict in Asia.....
