Darwin wasn't quite ready for this guy.....
A base jumper walked away with just minor scratches after his parachute opened backward, sending him falling 1,000 feet to the ground -- and the entire ordeal was caught on video.
A camera attached to Matthew Gough's helmet recorded his fall from the edge of a cliff in Lake Garda, Italy.
Gough, 25, jumped off the cliff and floated briefly before smashing into rocks, bouncing down the cliff and finally landing at the foot of the cliff, the Telegraph reports.
"Everything was going fine and then I pulled the parachute. The problem was the deployment was really slow," Gough said. "It comes down to simple bad luck, nothing else. The conditions were fine, the parachute twisted when it inflated, and it was facing backward."
Gough sustained only minor injuries to his knees and ankle and reportedly was taken to the hospital and released only a few hours later.
"When I hit the floor I was so shocked I was alive," Gough said.
Gough is a veteran sky diver and has base-jumped nearly 200 times. He says he plans to continue to base jump.
"Some jumps I may not do...but I will carry on jumping," Gough said. "I fully accept the dangers of this sport and don't expect any sympathy.
