Default Home Security for Busy Pilots?

Aloha friends,

I'm looking at relocating to a more urban environment and I'm pretty concerned about the potential for break-ins and theft during the whopping two-straight weeks that I'm on the road every month.

I thought I'd put this thread out there to see if it might be worth it for pilots to share their thoughts and experiences in dealing with or preventing break-ins while away at work.

I know a lot of things are common sense, but I'm sure there's some pretty useful and uncommon insight among our ranks as well.

I'm looking at moving into the historic outskirts just outside of a downtown environment, and need to figure out as much as I can about how to secure a duplex/small house and a sedan.

Thank you for any answers; I hope other single, busy pilots can also learn a few new tricks and ideas from this thread.

Lots of cities have police maps of crimes by type and location, but since you already have a location you need to concern yourself with physical security. Alarms, reinforced doors and windows, cameras and perhaps a house sitter or light timer.

Installation of a hidden kill switch on cars will make sure that a theft attempt will not go far.

Get a double-barreled shotgun and fire off two blasts.

Remington 870 or Mossberg 535 is probably a better choice. But the OP indicated that no one would be at his residence while he was gone.

I think Shy was making a joke, not being serious about the double barreled shotgun. Good ole' Joe Biden.
