Never been divorced- don't intend to. In my life, I've observed a few marriages and divorces. A couple of global observations seem consistent.
CAVEATS-
1. One never knows the whole story.
&
2. There are always two sides to every story.
That said, it seems:
1. That one of the parties is either a nutjob or an a55hole. You pick the gender, but my gender choice is pretty specific and again, fairly consisitent.
2. Substance abuse- both legal and potentially illegal; often plays a part.
3. Selfishness and lack of "give" seem prominent- "he/she always...." Like in anything, little problems ignored tend to grow. The fire you could've easily put out a while ago, well.... Should a married guy play softball-sure. Should he play 3-4 nights a week? You get the picture.
4. Lack of communication skills.
5. Control issues.
6. Unreal expectations- If I didn't have my wife, would I want to be married to a 23 year-old nymphomaniac model? Probably. Is my spouse trending that way- no. But I'm not Brad Pitt either. Actually, I'm not even a 30 pound overweight Brad Pitt- NO WAIT! I'm sorry, that statement is half right.
7. Space- reasonable time away from each other is good.
It's true love is blind- so you can't tell people in love anything. A good friend of mine married a very high maintenence battleaxe. Ironically, I get along with her great. As he says, "I'm glad when you visit because you deflect attention from me!" But prior to the marriage, several parties (not me) try to tell him to not do it. In any case, they've been at it for 17 years. So something must be working.
Again, these are just my observations.

Now Skyhigh, there you go with your negativity again. Being single does NOT mean that you are lonely! There is nothing more lonely than being in a bad marriage! I am enjoying being single again! I can surround myself with friends or family, do what I want when I want, hop on a plane and take off anytime I want. That's not to say that I won't marry again someday. I might further on down the road. Never say never, but it's not a goal of mine.

What's the point of getting married? ... Just find an nice girl, buy her a house and be done with it! Why go through all the drama in the middle.
What was that thing called?...................
Oh yeah, I remember now..... "The Scrotum Stretcher"
