Best Android Navigation App?
#1
My subscription to the app I had been using for the last year has expired and while generally satisfied with it, I'd like to see if other users here have any good experiences with other Android based navigation apps. I may switch to something else if I feel like it is worth it.
I was using Anywhere Map Freedom, for reference sake. Using a Google Nexus 7 (2013) tablet, also.
Looking for full moving map/nav/IFR approach plate capabilities, etc.
So, what are the front runners for top Android device nav apps??

The Android market is starting to pick up for aviation now.
It is hard to find solid reviews on the products, but I think avilutions software is the top notch at the moment and only costs around $35 a year and includes geo-referenced approach plates.
Naviator I used the trial of and it was nice, but costs something around $75 a year on top of a monthly charge for Seattle Avionics geo-ref plates.
You can also use FlyPlan Mobile which is an AOPA design.
Personally, I choose Av for the price, ease of use, constant updates, and is very affordable.
None of the apps are on foreflights level but they don't cost $300 a year either. Also you don't need to buy an iPad. I use a Nexus 7 as well and I like it so much better than an iPad.
Avilution also has a pretty sweet app called SkyTracker. Go out for a flight and it tracks your entire route across a map in 3d. If you do aerobatics it should look neat, and can critique your maneuvers!

I recently downloaded the FltPlan Go app and love it. It's totally free and has all the approach plates, VFR sectionals, low/high enroute, AF/D, etc. As for if it has a moving map feature I do not know, but you can't beat free.

Did ForeFlight raise their price? Used to only be 75 for the standard and 150 for the pro.

Right now I'm leaning towards either Garmin Pilot or Avilution AvMaps.

Or are you talking about ForeFlight? If so, same thing.

The FltPlan Go app. Hopefully they'll get an Android version out there before too long.

I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for, but I've been using the fltplan.com free app on my android tablet for quite awhile. It keeps getting better and better.
Since I already have a great panel navigator, I am primarily interested in the free charts/approach plates, but it also has a ton of other utilities. You can get GPS tracking on the charts, but the approach plates do not (at least it doesn't work on my tablet) yet.
The flight planning aspect of fltplan.com on-line absolutely is the best. Weather, NOTAMS, TFRs, and such essentials, plus there are a lot of "fluff" features like TOLD cards, and passenger briefings.
The weight and balance part of the Android app works very well and makes planning for every flight a breeze.
Oh, did I mention that everything is free?

Well, no sooner than I had complained about the FltPlan Go app not being on Android that they released it for Android today! Only about 50 downloads so far. Going to give it a try and see how it compares to the trial version of Garmin Pilot that I'm using.
