Default homework/Math question

Anybody shed some light on this word problem ? Please provide how you arrived to the answer (and the answer)

Acme sold 26.7 Billion widgets in 2011. It sales growth is 10.26% a year. The country of Africa represents 20% of its sales.

Assuming this sales growth does not change year to year, how many widgets did it sell in 2043 (42 years after 2011), in the country of Africa ?

So what was the sales growth for Africa, or are you to assume 10.26% is consistend in every market?

I came up with 121,595,324,933

Created an Excel SS for the years 2011-2043, adding 10.26% to get the next year's sales, then took 20% of that in 2043. Total sales in 2043 came to 607,976,624,667.

am I close?

no trick question, I posted that at like 0300 and was foggy. the question was "XXX, a country in Africa" the numbers are the same tho

N9373M: negative brother, but I appreciate the help. The answer choices are

290.6 Billion
387.0 B
250.3 B
377.9 B

I am probably just gonna guess it. I have to submit it tonight by 1159 PM

I tried to take the answers and reverse engineer the problem, but hit a brick-wall

The answer should be:

1.1026 to the 42 power (need exponential calculator). (that is 110.26% expressed numerically).

Take that, and multiply by 26.7 Billion.

This should be the total units per year, 42 years after.

Multiply by 0.20; this is your 20% for Mystery Country X.

However, I get 323 Billion, and that is not one of your answers.

I tried again using 41 and 43 years in the exponent, but those answers are
293 Billion (using 41 years)
356 Billion (using 43 years)

Hope it helps a little...sorry no direct match, but the math principles above are correct.

First off... 2043 is 32 years after 2011, not 40ish. So either a typo or your math teacher can't do basic math.

(26.7 x ((1+.1026)^32)) x.2 = final units by africa. Soo 121 billion or 322.9 billion for 42 years.

Unless there is missing info.. that is your answer. Unless you round per year or 10.26% per month growth.

Agree. Somebody typed the wrong years, it's either...

32 years (2043) = 122B

or

42 years (2053) = 323B

Guys

After struggling with this and shutting down google's servers with so many searches, the answer lies here. I used google calculator, which only fits so many digits. So to "make it work" I reduced it from billions

267 000 000 * (1.1026^42) = 161460674861

1026 in red represents "10.26 percent"

then, 161460674861 * .20 = 322921349722

the first four digits are 3229 and remember I reduced the number of digits to fit google calculator (and my handheld solar calculator didn't fit them either).

Looking at the answers, is 322.9 B, which I selected, and got it right

Thank you everyone, everybody's post triggered me to search for answers and jolted my brain.

Thanks!! This is a MBA corporate finance class and I (and a few others) were banging our heads on this one.

** answer is 322.9B not 377.9 as posted above. I am running on like 4 hours sleep for three days now, sorry
