Only two that I am aware of. Both out of Maui. One between Maui and Moloka’i, and one between Maui and Lana’i.

One would think something would run off Oahu or Hawaii Island.

This is yet another data point for people that think any airline can just jump in and out here and expect things are going to run like they do on the mainland. It’s different out here. You’ve got to live here to realize that.

I understand it’s a totally different world, mindset and reality out there. I can respect that but don’t have any desire to vacation there because it’s so expensive. The Caribbean is fantastic and more affordable (and closer).

Anti-merger sentiment was a clear-eyed look at the economics of AQ and knowing that a merger would have resulted in economic failure and everyone getting stapled somewhere. Even with $20million ASTB stabilization loan, AQ lost, what was it, $40 million? Still running 737-200s from the early '70s and hoping their competitor goes out of business wasn't working... Hawaiian was opposed to Greg Brenneman and TurnWorks running the combined airline. They wanted to cut Brenneman out and have Hawaiian managers run the new airline. That wasn't acceptable to Aloha for somewhat obvious reasons.

In the long run, it worked out for Hawaiian because despite hiring so many Aloha folks, everyone at Hawaiian at the time of Aloha's demise got a huge bump in seniority. It wouldn't have worked out that way for them had the merger gone through.

The couple SWA guys I know are awesome top notch folks. But like KingAir said a couple pages back, the SW mgt koolaid is strong. Crap like this:
