$36 per Hour ... LOL
"The state with the highest cost of living index is Hawaii, whose index is 196.3. This means that the cost of living in Hawaii is 96.3% higher than the U.S. average. Hawaii's housing index is 336.3, where a two-bedroom costs about $1,895 per month, and the median home value is about $660,000" (source).
Hmm, at minimum guarantee, you're looking at $2,700/month gross ... factor in taxes, after $1,900/month rent ... I guess it's ramen, water, and walking to the airport for work each day.

Your realtor is correct. Prices have gone up due to the pandemic. And really, a million buys you a house in a an area that is less desirable or in poor shape.
Hawaiian's management team has no clue to reality and the only way to increase the starting pay is to have no one apply.

Benefits and Privileges
Are the healthcare benefits and retirement plans comparable to the majors? I saw on the HAL profile page that the company only does 401k matching contribution for new hires. Does that mean they stop matching contributions from the second year and beyond?

15% contribution to 401k starting on day 1. It continues your whole career.

Stating the obvious here, buying a house is stupid expensive. From what I’ve seen, the big island is affordable. How’s the commute from there?
