I think 717 has short period time flight
So. I think that overtime duty will be difficult. Am I right.?
And then is it common to start and end at Hilo International Airport or Kahului Airport, or should the start and end airports always be HNL?
I wonder if there are some pilots who have a domicile other island, except HNL?

Yes, in my opinion. The cutoff month from the last big vacancy we had was June/ July last year. So unlike the year before the vacancy was awarded to two pilots here for 4 months, they trained at exactly one year. The junior Capt in that vacancy was June. If any vacancies are filled to a junior Captain, they’ll take it.
My feeling is there are many pilots that have or will meet their 24 month training freeze in other aircraft, they could and most likely will bid over and fill any vacancies available.
Just a cloudy crystal ball opinion.

yeah I would think it’s going to be 2 year or less upgrade for a long time. Even those who upgraded early sit left seat 717 for two years and get bored and want to make more money could hold 330 or 321 captain.

this right here!! Upgrades will be less than two years for the foreseeable future for this exact reason. Guys that take the upgrade on the 717 from a different aircraft generally dislike the 717 and bid off it. Current FOs on the 717 that bid captain do it for the quick upgrade and money. Once their new hire seat lock is up they will be bidding to other aircraft. There has never been a large number of pilots on other airframes that bid 717 captain.

But as we get more planes, even a new airframe (replacement) in coming years, movement will be very dynamic.

So yes, I agree, except for several Capts that upgraded from the 717 this recent year, did get an early upgrade, like the money and like flying locally and are local, they’ll stay. I’ve heard from them directly, but few will move on to bigger equipment?
