Default Disabling Automatic "mark read" function?

I don't see anything in the "User Control Panel" for this....

I find it very frustrating that the board marks EVERYTHING as "read" every time I sign out--this happens on every platform I've tried (multiple Windows version, iOS). It's especially frustrating if I get distracted while reading a thread and come back to find that I've been logged out (that's annoying, too, BTW--though, perhaps necessary for account security).

So, is there a means to avoid having posts marked "read" just because I visit the site (and then log out)? If so, I can't find the setting. If not, would you please consider adding it?

Hi Jughead135,

Hope you had a great weekend!

We’ve updated the feature that controls how read threads are marked and we have checked this out: we are no longer experiencing the issue that you reported.

We have double checked internally and the upgrade aligns with the best practices for all other communities, so thanks again for bringing this up.

Please let us know if this helps. Thank you!

Super, thank you!

It'll take a few logins & logouts for me to judge how it's working--I'll have feedback in a few days. Thanks for looking at this!

Cheers!

Hey, I just learned this option by testing this new functionality, and I have just shared this piece of advice in another post...

If you are using your mobile a lot and you are a power user of the community, I would suggest that you mark all threads as read by selecting the "Mark Forums Read" link, in the drop down menu called "Quick Links" on the right hand side of the navbar.

This will make sure that everything is reset for your account/user id. You will only have to do this once.

I hope this helps. Let me know.

Nick

Seems to be working as advertised. I had the one-time pain you refer to so far as marking things read (i.e., it appeared to have a "base" from a couple of days prior, with older stuff already marked), but that was easily dealt with. Since then, just what I'd expect!

Thanks for taking a look, and thanks very much for being responsive to user input.

Cheers!
