Default Cage Marshall

Aviators,

Belated XMAS and Happy New Year to you all!

I am reaching out to those that have used Cage Marshall review service.

I recently used them, and I have to admit that I am rather disappointed considering I paid $300 for a resume and application review.

The individual that did my review said that my resume was good overall, and I just needed to remove and move a few things around.

We then did my application, and honestly, I was shocked that nothing special was suggested or recommended that would help my application. We went over my whole application, checked the grammar, moved a few things around, and expanded on a few things. Nothing was mentioned about keywords, etc. that could possibly help trigger my application to score more points with airlineapps.

If anyone has used them, could you possibly share your experience? If I ever get the opportunity for an interview, I would like to use them, but after my last experience, I am a little reluctant.

Your mileage of course may very, so as with any advice and Internet forum please take this with a large grain of salt:

Iím pretty particular and precise with presentation/fonts/spelling/etc., had taught resume/interview courses in a different industry before making the career switch, and had already attended one of their ALPA workshops and spent the time to incorporate those suggestions into my application prior to buying their services.

I can say that they provided a tremendous value to me at the application, resume, and interview stages. I was skeptical at first but it is some of the best money Iíve ever spent.

Two caveats:
(1) I didnít come from a large 141 school/university or military and had a varied career (both aviation and non-aviation) prior to entering 121.
(2) I did both interview prep sessions in person in Denver. I knew ahead of time that I do much better face-to-face and worked out my schedule accordingly to avoid the phone prep. I did the application review over the phone and it was excellent and comprehensive.

But.....did they offer any type of metrics that would get your application pulled for review?

Iím not necessarily saying you had unrealistic expectations but they are not a some magical service that can provide the super secret terms that will give you more points. Your experience provides the large collection of points. They understand what common mistakes are and how best to have your app read. They did mine a few years ago and gave me a similar service. I had really worked at my app for a few years so short of a secret code to enter, I wasnít expecting them to say it was junk and rewrite it. While yes it is a lot of money, I think I would feel comfort knowing that your app is as good as it can be. They have no doubt had tons of success with applicants.

I just recently did they interview prep. I donít know what I was expecting but I felt a little disappointed on that myself. Again, maybe I thought they had some super secret intel but at the end of the day it was, while valuable, rather basic information. I did study extensively before prepping with them so they didnít have much to offer. With that being said, I was given praise when I left (which maybe they do for everyone) so it made me feel good that I did everything I could to prepare.

When I actually did my interview, I finally realized what they do for a lot of people. What seemed rather basic to me of doís and doníts in an interview seemed to escape some I interviewed with. Items such as, what kind of suit/shirt/tie to wear (or not wear), being personable to everyone in your interview group, not talking negatively about your current employer, tabbing logbooks, providing only the paperwork requested in the order it is requested, not showing up with everything polished (paperwork/attitude/logbooks/etc). So maybe to those people, CM would have been a golden ticket. Who knows. These are all just my two cents worth.
