Default keeping my passport

I agree, passport belongs with me. What if war breaks out between Iran and US? All US citizens would likely be told to evacuate the Middle East, right?

EK - is your friends name Tim S? That is who I interviewed with, and he was very nice. The job sound great, I hope this sticking point about the passport doesn't blow it.

Iran and UAE are two different governments, with two different relationships with the USA (not to mention different languages). UAE and the USA are indeed allies. Without referencing any official documents I think it is safe to say that Iran and the USA are not on the best terms. So back to the question... the US will not evacuate all citizens living in the middle east (A MASSIVE REGION) if a war breaks out in Iran. I guess there is always a what if... and a good reason to insist you don't surrender your passport.

Consider this:
1. By all accounts (and it is true - I live and work in the UAE), it is ILLEGAL to hold someone's passport.

2. In spite of point 1, it is common practice for most companies here to hold employees passports. While I'm aircrew and mine is not held, it is my company's policy to hold the passports of their lower grades (according to our company policy manual). My company (you can guess) is wholly owned by the Dubai government.

As far as the rule of law goes, you can draw your own conclusions.

Default no longer an issue

I talked with the secondary level recruiter today, and she agreed I can keep my passport. They just need it for a short time to get my work permit. As that was my main concern, it is looking good.

UPSFeeder,

I have a few questions, if you don't mind. I'm too new to PM, if you don't mind sending me an e-mail to vxclimb at gmail dot com, I'll respond w/ my question.

Thanks,

TB
