Best Options?

First off, thanks T-P for the reply. This forum is a great resource and your input seems particularly relevant. I totally agree that my first and best option is to stay put, however, some things may be beyond my control. The next few weeks and months should make the future more clear.
It's a small world, because, like Fly4hire, I too have dual citizenship- US and UK. I am interested in knowing whether that opens any doors. Last time I checked, the UK was NOT part of the EU, at least not monetarily- are they considered EU citizens in the sense that they/we have the right to live and work in EU countries?
What is involved in getting a JAA license? Is there a company out there that specializes in handling the training for the crossover for those with an FAA ATP?
As to Bengalsfan's question, yes, I do believe that FedEx and UPS and SWA undoubtedly represent some of the best opportunities out there right now- but, as was pointed out, I would rather avoid starting over from scratch at this point in my life.
Also, I am a caveman when it comes to the etiquette for formating these posts and replys. I don't know, for example, if there is a way to reply to each individual post or if I should just add onto the thread as I have done. I won't be offended by any constructive advise.

Welcome to the forums and good luck on your transition. I'm right there with you in exploring other options. No worries on your "post etiquette", I wish more users would be as thoughtful. One thing you might find useful is the QUOTE button at the bottom of each post. It you want to respond to a user by quoting his/her post just click "quote" and the users post is there to help you frame your response. It goes a long way in helping others follow the thread's context.
You can also edit the quoted text if you wish - maybe you just want a line or two instead of the entire post. Just highlight and delete any text you don't want, just make sure the quote tags are NOT changed.
They look like this: [HTML]

You might want to consider Singapore Airlines/Singapore Airlines Cargo. The cargo side is actively recruiting. The pax side is trying to juggle the 380 delays and the introduction of the 773ER, so they are in pretty good shape and it's taking quite a while to get a response from them.
From what you originally wrote, I'd assume you would qualify for DEC on the 744F, which isn't too bad. Anyhow, if you want any further info, just PM me or respond here.

Phil , I have a question about SIA Caego flying ? How are the schedules? I do have an app in with them on the Pax side, but got scared off the Cargo side after hearing they do 14-16 day around the world trips. Is this true, or only a occasional circumstance ?
Any insights to there rostering would be appreciated.
Thanks .. CptCrisp

For the JAA license, since you have Internatioanal widebody PIC time, I believe it is just a matter of a couple of written exams and then a checkride. This as opposed to all 14 written exams. Again, I'm not too sure but this is what I have been told in the past. This for the UK: "You can contact the Personnel Licensing Department by telephone on 01293 573700 or by
our e-mail addresses: [email protected] or [email protected]". I'd be interested if you do and receive a reply. Alternatively, here are some school names that might know:

The nice thing about long trips is the time off after the trip. I will have 6 days off minimum at the end of the 12 day trip. On the average, I have been off about 13 days/ month.
As far as rostering goes, it's really depends on what you consider a "good" roster. Most of the cargo trips are on the longer side, with longer layovers. But, all in all, you don't really work too hard.

The bigger contrast can be seen between the two companies in regards to time off after such a trip. At EK it would be a minimum of two days off. SQ has the advantage there, no doubt. At EK you could only be rostered for one of those trips per month, but a lot of the Aussies would try to trade for two to get more time at home.

Thanks Phil for the reply. I am excited about the prospect of SIA.. even with the 5+ year lock in .. we have family and friends close by and would be a treat to have more time with them. Will have to see what happens.
Talking about around the world trips, just got back from a 3 day, had a segment from SAN to DFW, as we hit Gila Bend, GBN, center gave us heads up about Steve Fosset .. he was at 51000 feet, directly above us .. saw his con-trial and plane, (we were at 390). They had him in a block from 450 to 510. He made the turn right along with us on the airway. Thought he would be more on a direct routing. Never thought a plane that high would give off a contrail , esp. being in the SW. We had 200 knts on him ..( we were about 500 gs).
Thanks again all for your feedback, will be doing something different by this summer. looking forward to the adventure.

One other thing about SQ is generally speaking the hotels are very nice, great locations. For example on this next trip, it's a short layover in ICN (18 hours at the Hilton) the ANC 30 hours (Hilton) then it's to ORD (60 hours downtown) then to BRU (72 hours downtown) then BOM (24 hours at new hotel however it is 5 star from other crews old hotel was Renissance Convention Center).
I know talking to some friends I have at EK, they don't really have it that good as far as layover hotels are concerned. However, I will give ALPA-S credit for doing a good job with hotels. The only real "problem" hotel we have is in NYC and I don't think we'll be there much longer.
