There was ONE person hired last year at the end of the season who didn't have his multi but i'm pretty sure everyone else that was hired at the beginning of the season had their multi. Not sure if they want you to or not.

Sounds like a cool job. Are you really away for six months at a time? What is the work schedule like?

Middle of October, until the end of May; so around 7 1/2 months. You train for about two weeks, they assign you an aircraft, and they send you to a location filing IFR regardless of weather. You work every day, unless there is weather--basically 2.5 hours after sunrise until 2.5 hours before sunset. You only fly 10am-2pm from Nov to Jan, and you call in every morning before you fly. When you are getting close to finishing a project, they will tell you where you are to go next. That's about it. This last season, we flew around 8-9 hours a day, from the middle of April until almost the end of May, almost EVERY day--lots of hours.

I flew there for a summer a long long time ago, 2000. Good to hear Bob is still around, real nice guy. Get him to tell you some of his F-111 stories.

Bob and Simon are great guys, I worked there years ago. And the guy that started it all, Al S was just awesome. When i heard he passed away (after i left landcare) I was really moved. Just fantastic people and yeah a great job. I really look back on those days with a lot of nostalgia.

Is it possible to get hired for half a season? I live a couple hours away from Rome, NY and plan on dropping off a resume when I head home in a week. Unfortunately I go to school halfway across the countryand commiting to a whole season would mean pretty much no school for a year. But I'd give up spring semester of school for the opportunity to fly half a season.

Also, what's the interview like? Any sim or flight portion?

How do the aircraft get their required inspections while you're out of base? Does Landcare have agreements with other maintenance providers, or do you have to ferry the plane back to Rome?
