Default Delta Paying for People to go to Flight School?

As the title says, I talked with someone who I would consider VERY, VERY, reputable (someone who has a pilot job that everyone on here would envy) that Delta has or is going to have a program where they pay for a person's flight school in exchange for employment. It sounds extremely far-fetched and ridiculous to me considering today's environment, but nonetheless he said it. Has anyone else heard this? Evidently if it is true it is recent because he "read about it just the other day."

Dear MEC negotiating commitee:

I would glady accept the job that everyone would envy over the current round of pay & QOL.

Please scrap the CBA draft and ammend with the above quotation.

Sincerely, your 1.95% brother

Dear Chief Pilot:

I hereby resign effective today to begin my career as a postal adhesive quality assurance inspector. I figured all of my years spent kissing your butt would translate well in the stamp licking department...

Very truly yours,
Smoothie

Dear Airline CEO, that merges and walks away with $ 30 million:

I hereby resign effective today to begin my airline executive training program using my former career as a postal adhesive quality assurance inspector. I figured it worked for you...

Best wishes,
Sm

How does a UPS or FDX pilot know about DAL insider info? Personally, I don't envy any other pilot's job out there because I'm where I want to be...even less so if they're in airline management.

What does a guy who flies P-51s on the airshow circuit know about Delta's strategic plans?

Your friend may have Delta confused with one of Delta's contact carriers. There are more than a few contract carrier's out there that are beginning this program in an effort to find qualified applicants. The regionals just can't keep up with attrition these days, and the big flight schools are simply getting cleaned out. There is NO WAY that mainline DAL would hire in this way, with thousands of high-time regional captains waiting for these positions.

This sounds like another DCA marketing rumor. Remember when they were going to give DCA CFI's a line number at Comair. That didn't last long. Who know what they will think of next....
