You know, Wal Mart has a flight department. At least for now until it is completely not PC to have business jets.:(

I don't foresee hiring in the regionals for at least a year or so. It seems as though even the top regionals are looking at the f-word.

For you Dash 8 furloughee's, Arik Air in Nigeria is looking for Q400 FO's and CA's, and B737 Captains.

I keep hearing that but no one mentions you need thousands of hours, and time in type ussually a 73 or Airbi. Seems like the only guys qualified meet the requirments because they have been flying their current job so long, they arent furloughed...hence the conundrum. A thousand pilots on the street, a thousand jobs in africa, yet none of the thousand are getting offered a job there...hmmmmmm

Hi!

Africa, like most overseas jobs, require you to have the type and some hours in it. There ARE lots of jobs and hiring.

I am flying the -9 in NBO. I emailed, and called the guy, and kept at it for a number of months. I had to pay for my own PC check. Finally, the guy told me to buy a ticket and show up. He paid me back + $500 for travel expenses, and I was back in the cockpit again less than a week later.

Another guy from my airline is CRJ-900 for Arik Air out of Lagos. Another is GIII in Dubai. Another Emirates (don't need a type rating). Another King Air-WX mod in Saudi. I know another guy via the net who just got hired on a CRJ out of Aden, Yemen. I just saw a job advertised for -9 captain out of Djibouti. You had to be current and fly over there to start in a matter of days. I earlier saw a -9 FO job that they needed someone to start in TWO DAYS!!!

There are planes flying all over the place here in East Africa, with crews coming and going. If you can find the right job and show up, you are in. My op has had a number of pilots quit because it was not for them.

It is very different, and not easy, coming from a normal US background. I was NOT looking in Africa at all, because of this, until I was laid off. So far, the job is do-able. Almost every other ex-9 guy in my company wanted nothing to do with it, which I understand.

I haven't heard anything from Compass or GoJet and I have almost 6000 tt and 2000+ PIC Jet. It suck to be a pilot looking for work right now.

Good Luck

Compass isn't "hiring", and as far as GoJet, well...
aside from the politics, give the number on the website a call.

I've heard they've slowed down due to delays of the rest of the airplanes and financing. Plus they're only hiring pretty much 5000+ hour applicants and they do small classes so limited slots. After a year or so they're probably going to go right back down to comm mins, they're not going to be able to keep any of these high time guys. I think the regionals will rebound first but after the economy shows some clear signs that it's out of the recession. Maybe after a year, who knows.

I have a friend that is going to Arik Air for an F/O position on the q400. He starts ground school this week, and is making double what he made at Horizon before he got the boot.

p.s. Any word on if PSA is hiring? uspilots.com advertises they are....
