Is it still for a May 2015 date? I was hoping it would cover more new hires.
I have 2 LOR's on file just got a third one today. But I may have missed the dance. Nothing else I could do. I live on mainland but have family on Oahu, volunteer on island multiple X's a year.

You guys are lucky to have him in my opinion. He was the right guy for Pinnacle but he didn't want to be a Delta puppet. We was in the process of making all the right adjustments to contracts and returning the company to profitability when Delta pulled the run from under him and basically told him they would not pay what they agreed to pay unless we stopped flying for everyone except Delta. All that combined with a very expensive pilot integration is what caused Pinnacle to go into bankruptcy. Sean got out when he when he saw Delta wanted him to be a "yes" man and he did not want to be that guy.

Sounds good, but can you tell us what your background is in all this? Were you at 9E?

It's no surprise that HAL has more applicants than jobs....and the reality is that managers are going to great lengths to ensure that the hiring process is truly fair, if not genuinely transparent. It is point based, but I don't know if points are given for being related to a current pilot, etc. Maybe if a captain has worked there 30 years and guided his kid through the ratings and building experience process, that's worth something. I think that a rec may help you get the interview, but beyond that the obligation is entirely on YOU, no matter who you are.

The reality is these current openings are just for attrition...IF, and it's a big IF, the 321s are delivered as scheduled, and 76s are retired, there will be a larger number of new hires. Let's hope in the meantime that someone doesn't try to merge, acquire, or take over this gem of an airline. If they do, they'll all be sucking wind......

By the way, I think they've hired their last captain for a long while some time ago if they anticipate a 1000 pilot airline....for what it's worth.

Actually with about 600 pilots now and maybe a hundred or so retiring in the next 5 years, the 2020 projection of 1,000 pilots means about everyone here today will have the chance to upgrade by 2020.

Scheduled retirements are fewer, although some will surely retire before age 65. Even so, new hires should realize that the upgrade will be a fair ways off...

This is very important to understand. And a well placed source I have in Kopaka tells me that the 1000 number is a VERY rosy number trumped by light ops for moral... that the higher ups see a far smaller number based on replacing lots of Inter Island block hours with 321, and faster 767 retirements.

Anyone who's been flying longer than a few years should ALWAYS know that projections usually fall well short. I'd argue with as young many of our captains are, and as young as many senior FO's are... if you're bottom 10-20% of this list, you're an FO for 15, maybe more years..

While I'm not sure anyone at Koapaka has a crystal ball that can see out more than a few days, I do think 321 flying will impact interisland flying. At this point no one can tell to what degree it will reduce the 71 schedule, but it's a safe bet it will. And I'm also betting that ALL the 76s will be retired when enough 321s arrive on property. There should still be a net increase in pilots...let's see....16 321s x 12 pilots each is 192...minus say 10 76s at 120 pilots is a net increase of 72, plus 2 additional 330s 2nd half of 2015 is another 24...so 96 total net before 717 block hour reductions due to 321 flying. So that would take the list to roughly 700.....the 1000 number must be if all options are exercised.
