I can understand the hotel. But a standby ticket on there airline. That's a little strange. Even the Regionals will give you a standby ticket.

Thats the way Hawaiian operates. I know guys that had to drop close to a grand for a ticket because of the short notice interview.

Hawaiian knows there are a TON of guys/gals out there that would kill to work there (me included) and the competition is stiff. It shows how commited you are to wanting to join the family.

Hawaiian Airlines Hiring

It's sad to read this, because I hate hearing about another company that wants to be cheap-ass.

Ultimately, it's just another airline that will do without my services. I'd love to live in Hawaii and fly for them, but I will not cover costs that should be born by the (potential) employer. They can ask whatever the market will bear, and that is their right. However, I will not subsidize them on my end. I have made other arrangements which suit me just fine - I'm really not complaining. It just still surprises me how Mickey-Mouse even legacy carriers can be these days.

Cue SkyHigh on how utterly worthless the airline dream has become...

No it doesn't! Dumbest thing I've ever heard. Got a guy at my present company, who paid for his B747 type and got hired as a walk-in during a new hire class. Just because he had enough money to buy a type rating; doesn't belie the fact that he's a bonehead - money doesn't have anything to do with being committed!

They don't provide tickets because that is an easy free flight to Hawaii. You are always welcome on the jumpseat. If you don't want to that's fine.

Aug. 7 class had 8 pilots for A330 (some are non ex-Aloha). Aug. 23 class will have approx. 20 pilots for all 3 fleet types. Seniority based on last 4 of SSN.

A hand-full of the Phase III folks asked to come back and re-take the 900 question psych test. Once you clear psych test, the shrink's personal phone interview and your psych report is submitted, should get a job offer!

I did the shrink phone interview last week, still no word!

In this day and age I am surprised more companies are not conducting video interviews, especially when they wont provide tickets to fly guys out to HI several times for the interview phases. I know HAL uses video interviews for other employees, so why not extend it to potential pilots.

That's great.

What if you're furloughed or not currently employed by a 121 carrier?

A free ticket to Hawaii and a hotel room should be just a cost of doing business. Alternatively, they could conduct the interviews on the mainland.

I really don't mean to impugn Hawaiian - I'd love to work there. I probably won't get ever get called anyhow since I don't have any strong ties to the islands other than having flown there many times. Unfortunately, due to circumstances even if I was called I couldn't afford to go interview, and that shouldn't be the determining factor in whether a company hires an individual or not.
