Thanks for the heads up! How is the company's commuter policy?

Any idea how many they are looking to hire? Thanks!

Hawaiian's conversion?

Anyone know what Hawaiian is using for military flight time conversion? .2 or .3 per sortie? Thanks.

tahoejace 05-20-2011 08:09 AM

I didn't see it anywhere on the site, but I could have missed it. I just went ahead and submitted my app with .3/sortie conversion.

How senior is the SEA base?

sorry, my response may make me sound like a jacka$$ but, it is not my intension, but in my opinion, only, a question on this site would be, how many pilots do they intend on hiring, or what aircraft would a new hire most likely go to, or how many days is reserve?

I mean, SEA base, totally not a concern, not like the job itself, sorry, it is practical thinking for me. good luck though.

This site can be very, very useful, helpful, except from a guy like me, :)

Can you tell me then how junior HNL is? Couldn't resist... :D

Exactly, now you're getting it.

See, we can get along, my apologies.

airlinejob2011 05-22-2011 07:40 AM

We're in a horrible job market...I would be so happy to have any Boeing job right now.

Rama 05-22-2011 09:45 AM

At HAL, you may end with an Airbus job.

hnldave 05-22-2011 11:12 PM

1. COMMUTER POLICY: As far as I know, there is no commuter policy. Which is why Hawaiian likes to hire local pilots or pilots with strong ties to Hawaii. However, a new scheduling policy was recently put into place where you can do segment trades. We have many commuters and they dont complain.

2. HOW MANY NEWHIRES: Rumor has it between 60-80 pilots this year. We've hired 12 so far.

3. MILITARY FLIGHT CONVERSIONS: I have no clue. Sorry.

4. SEATTLE BASE SENIORITY: The most junior FO is 33% off the bottom. It's a very small base with only 12 FOs.

5. NEWHIRES: Approximately half have been going to the heavy and half to the 717. In the future, I would guess most newhires will be assigned the A330. Expect to hold a line immediately because the most junior reserve pilot in any aircraft has 1-1.5 years seniority. Minimum 12 days off.

sidestep 05-23-2011 05:12 PM

what's the seat lock situation? 2 years 717 FO to 767/330 FO?

Rickce7 05-23-2011 06:16 PM

These posts are pretty informative and fun to read but I am afraid there won't be many jobs for the haoles . .

Are you serious? Does Hawaiian have a problem with white people in general -- or just white men? It's funny to think that so many strides have been made against racial discrimination that it has fostered just that... racial discrimination.

At least it's good to know in advance that Hawaiian uses discriminatory practices by not hiring whites. Or... Is it just your issue? And that is a serious question -- are you just bringing up trends that have burned you recently or are you speaking as a pilot representing the airline?

Sorry. . a million apologies. . I should have said "mainlanders". . .I used a term that my Hawaiian friends in college used to throw around in jest and didn't think it would be derogatory. I guess it is.

lolwut 05-24-2011 06:04 AM

Speaking of hiring, does anyone know how to delete and replace old resumes on the application site? Hopefully I'm not missing something blatantly obvious, but I have my old resumes on there and can't get rid of them for this new opening.

RJCapt 05-24-2011 06:18 AM

Same here, I just downloaded my new one, so now there is two on file.

This is bogus... Hawaiian does not use your race to add or detract from your application like Continental or United does.

It does however try to find people that actually want to live and work in Hawaii and plan to make Hawaiian their long-term career.

So if you don't want to make the sacrifices necessary to live in Hawaii, then it would be better for you to apply else where... there will be plenty of those mainland jobs opening this next year.

Are you suggesting that it is bogus that I questioned someone about the use of what I understood to be the Hawaiian version of slang for "white boy"? I understood his reply that it was not his intention to be taken that way (and I did not know it also meant a non-native). But, why is my questioning the other poster bogus?

AlohaFlyer 05-24-2011 11:48 AM

Not at all.. I am talking about how Hawaiian hires. I am a haole and my wife is polynesian... I can tell you in my experience in the last 20 years of living in the islands that haole is not a name that is normally considered offensive by anyone. We use it all the time at home. I would even say that it is even more of a term of endearment in my experience.

You can read more about the word Haole here if you wish:
Haole - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

But my main comment was that I do not believe that Hawaiian uses anyone's race as a means to determine their chances for employment as a pilot.

Thanks for clearing that up... No worries either. My wife uses endearing terms like that for me all the time too -- just yesterday she called me Einstein AND genius in the same sentence!!

missingbite 05-24-2011 03:29 PM

Deleted...never mind. Sorry.

My wife calls me the same word. Only she spells it a-hole instead

AIRLIFTR 05-26-2011 12:28 PM

That was funny

Rama 05-27-2011 09:04 AM

New vacancy bid just came out. 65 additional, all Airbus openings and 767 fo list shrinking by 11.

IADBLRJ41 05-27-2011 10:29 AM

So the window closed correct? Does anyone know when the company might be looking to interview?

Its supposed to be the month of June for the interviews... expect only 1 day notice and notification via email only.... that is their standard M.O.

Thanks. One day is pretty quick but I guess if you can make it to HNL quick it shows your interest.

Coto Pilot 05-28-2011 05:27 AM

If you can make it to HNL in one day it shows you are out of work.

. . . or you live in Hawaii.

Let me give you an example... Last year when I interviewed... I was emailed at 2pm CST on a Sunday, for an interview that was to take place at 8am HST on Monday morning. Needless to say there were no flights that I could possibly take to get there.

They do this to see how bad you want the job.

That is absolutely ludicrous. I had 10 days notice with my last interview which I thought was completely fair. They probably aren't looking for 'fair' though.
