As far as getting hired who knows what would've happened if I would've been able to make it to that last phase... If you're qualified, you never know.

I don't mean to be "that guy", I am just curious, but are you a female or a minority?

Also, congrats and good luck :)

Its a good gig with a good retirement plan, a lot of growth in the future. Management is still management, but they do seem to know what they are doing. It is not for everyone and I would not recommend commuting since it is so far from even the west coast.

Just to somewhat add to that..... Every local I've talked to, and by local I mean born and raised here or have been here for a very very long time. Each and every one has wanted or dreamed of flying for Hawaiian (or Aloha before 2008). It is basically Hawaiian or bust for many out here. I could definitely see the reason Hawaiian would want locals (or even people who live out here).

Less cost to Hawaiian because they know they are not leaving if Delta or SWA calls..Less cost for cancelled flights etc because someone couldn't commute in.

Compared to other Legacies, Hawaiian is a completely differnet geographical airline. It is way out there and a very very long commute.

. . . minus 10 or 15 G's for a type rating.

but I ain't mad at cha.

A smartly purchased 737 type doesn't cost 10-15K.

Your accountant can help you make sure that it's a tax deduction.

kingairfun 06-08-2012 02:44 AM

If I go to edit my profile....I can only edit the basic info like schools, residences, criminal background, jobs etc... Doesn't seem to be a way to access flight times to edit them...

I already submitted the auto generated e-mail that linked to the flight times portion of the app. When I go to "edit profile", it reaches a certain point and then says "thank You For Submitting". Never reaches the rest of the app. concerning flight times..

Any body else try/see the same thing?

Trying not to freak out over a slightly abnormal application..

I know places like JetBlue let you update all your information continuously... This online app at Hawaiian seems a bit less accomodating...

tikicarver 06-09-2012 04:31 PM

When I filled out the app, I didn't have all the info in front of me so I logged off figuring it would let me back in to update the app like most do. Then I got an auto generated email that said " the app was not complete click on the link below to finish it, Do Not use the edit profile link".
So I clicked on the link and finished the app, it went to the pilot time section and last page says something like " thank you for applying we will contact you if interested in you"

The weird thing, if I go to the section on the left that says "check app status"
it has the date from the first day I started filling in the online app not the date of the day I finished. So I kind-of wonder if the system has my updated app.

Just got the email for interview next Thursday! Any tips on attire (business casual or full on suit)?

:D

I would definitely go with full on suit... You can always lose the tie etc if they say so... although it is Hawaii, they still dress like professionals in most business settings:D

Good luck, wish I was in your spot. A bit discouraged after not hearing anything with everyone else right away...

Does HAL provide a positive space ticket to HNL and hotel etc for the interviews?

No, no

it's all on you, two days, and "suit up".

Congrads and good luck.
Definitely wear a suit and be professional.
Plus you will be able to ID all the other interviewees :-)
they will be the other people wearing suits.

Did you send in an update during the window that opened up on May25th?

If you can, ask how many are in the current pool.
If you meet any ex-AQ pilots tell them I said Hi.

tikicarver 06-11-2012 12:55 PM

anyone else get an interview this week?
or any kind of email response?

pittflyer 06-12-2012 02:46 PM

Sorry if I'm the "slow one in class" here, but I'm confused about some of the information in this post and was hoping for some clarity...

I can't recall if the 'flight hour section' was part of the separate email that everyone is referring to. Was the flight hour section on there along with 'your favorite airplane' and 'why Hawaiian Airlines' questions? Or was this a completely different email that I would have received?

Here's how it went for me:

Step 1) Created the profile when I "applied to" the First Officer Position (my first attempt with Hawaiian). This section included past jobs, residence history, education, drug and alcohol questions, criminal background

Step 2)A day later received an E-mail from Hawaiian that my application was not complete and they provided a link. Specifically said to use the link AND NOT to "edit profile"...

Step 3) filled out the information the link sent me to.. Which was Flight times, why you want to work here, favorite airplane?

That was the last I heard from them. They don't send any confirmation e-mail that your completed app was received. There was a guy on here that said he received a "thanks for applying but you will not be considered at this time" almost immediately after applying but I think he was short one of the minimums.

when you look at your application status it will still show the original date you applied, NOT the date you sent in the Flight Time Grid.... This is what really had me confused and worried about whether or not they received my completed application.

As far as I know that is all there is for the app. Main section and then the typical pilot stuff.

Nothing. friend of mine asked if I had heard anything because he knew calls (e-mails) were going out... Nothing yet here. Nobody I know has heard back yet either (all locals with most having interviewed before)

True, but don't overlook the value of the time you spend earning the rating either. I'd estimate that such an effort more than neutralizes the tax savings. Especially if you consider that you don't even have the job yet at that point. Regardless, SWA's pay is better. I just don't think it's anywhere near double, and certainly not different enough to validate waltzing into a HAL interview and blasting their contract. Lol

Same for me. I had applied a few years ago and that profile info was still there.
If I click on "check app status" it shows 2 apps, the date from a few years ago and the current one.
This time I went to the website and clicked on "apply"
it started from page one of the profile stuff and had my old info filled in.
Then I also got the email a day later that said "go to this link to finish the app"
then it went to the pilot times section.

I have several ex AQ friends that got hired. They all interviewed more than once. After the first time, they only got called back for phase two. Seems like they do it to see if you are still interested.

im sure same goes for several people here. i did ph 1 and 2 last year. I got an email saying i wasn't selected for ph3 at this time about 2 months ago. it went on to say that when the window opens again, i just have to fill out a short app. Sure enough, all my info is still there, 3 old resumes and all. Everyone in class that i met while I was interviewing was on round two or three of the app cycle. Keep trying is the name of the game it seems for most. fwiw

BARRELL RIDER 06-15-2012 12:07 PM

I had the issue with the flight time sheet. When I got to it my log book was not near so I clicked next just to see what else was on the app and it autosubmitted. I tried to resubmit the next day with no confermation. I just got invited to interview so you can update your application after you submitted it.

Anyone know of any hotels near HNL that offer crew rates?

Best Western Plaza $126 and is a short walk to HAL HQ.

kalyx522 06-16-2012 09:53 AM

What is phase 3 comprised of? Another last minute invite and I'm hoping to know generally what to expect.

spacemonkey 06-16-2012 12:24 PM

Pysch test & paperwork

bruddahgoose 06-16-2012 10:19 PM

Hey kalyx522, did you interview this past week? Did they call you for phase 3 already?

So you interviewed last year but you just got called for phase 3 again this week?

SVA402 06-18-2012 10:40 AM

If I have a major resume update since the application window closed, will going to the "edit my profile" page on the Hawaiian website and putting in a new resume be of value?

They were doing them the first week of June and two weeks after that (the two dates I know of but could have been more.)

There was one on june 21 for an early july class. I heard there is a phase 3 scheduled this wednesday for a late July class.

Any idea where they might be pulling these Phase III invites from? Interviewees over the last few weeks, or from last years Phase II's still?

In other words, has anyone who interviewed this month heard about a Phase III?

Eagerly awaiting/hoping/praying to hear for a Phase III:)

They called people for phase 3 from the group who interviewed within the last couple weeks.

ThrustMonkey 06-25-2012 06:54 PM

Are you required to bring logbooks to Phase III? I thought I recalled someone mentioning that to us in the group interview.....
